EV Price Wars Thread
I think Polestar is being just a little bit optimistic. As much as I really love the Polestar brand and want them to succeed, leaving Rivian and Lucid behind is not a very big goal post. I'm not sure what "analyst" they are talking about

Yeah doesn't really make sense. They're not even in the same market. That's like saying RAM is going to dominate Porsche.
Both statements are technically factual, but utterly meaningless.

I just saw both cars at the Valley Fair Mall in Santa Clara, they just don't appear to be competitors to me. The Lucid's interior is true Luxury car status with rich materials, its more of an S Class. The Polestar is just at a completely different price level and its interior materials reflect that. Not sure why its being compared other than that they both produce EVs.

Now this is a rumor I heard, take it with a grain of salt. A good friend of mine who currently works for Meta (the Oculus engineering team) interviewed with Tesla's China chief Tom Zhu. He declined the position because it required moving to Shanghai. Anyway, he told my friend that Tesla would probably start moving production away from the Shanghai plant, and convert it to storage/maintenance only. My friend speculated that Tesla is afraid that employees will leave and take valuable IP with them and share it with other Chinese automobile companies. Again, don't know if this is true or not, but we'll see
The thing is, if the Chinese don't deliver a good product, all the money in the world they pour in won't help them. Although Polestar does have backing from a Chinese company (Geely), the engineering team come from Volvo and is done in Sweden.

They are way too big a presence to be kicked out of Shanghai. Lots of taxes and jobs which benefits the central government. Like every company with presence there, IP theft is the biggest concern
"is a worrying trend"

Someone will always complain about something. Can't win. Raise the price then you have another group of people upset that it's too expensive to purchase.
Buy what you like and can afford and keep it moving.

It seems to me that if you are a company named Tesla you can't win with some people. Last year the complaint was Model 3 and Model Y were too expensive and only wealthy people buy them. Now that they cut prices and are being scooped up by "non rich" buyers, the soft EV market argument is now turning into they hurting the market. Hopefully there is a limit on how far goal posts can be moved, because man, we are now at the 200 yard line

Looks good.
My dad told me when I was a young man, "you can please some people some of the time but you will never please everyone all the time".
Has proven itself true to me over and over again.
