EV Price Wars Thread
Geely Adopts Tesla's "Giga Press" Manufacturing Technique
The diecasting technique saves time and money by allowing EVs to be built with many fewer body parts
That is one ugly design I hope never touches these shores.....

Porsche Plans "Very Steep" Taycan EV Production Ramp
A shortage of high-voltage heaters slowed the production of the sporty electric sedan
"Porsche says demand for the Taycan continues to be strong across the globe. Customers have been waiting many months for their EVs, and the drop in market share can only be attributed to supply chain issues and a lack of parts"

I for one am happy that prices are declining. I've been shopping many vehicles recently, and these price drops makes me consider getting a second EV over the other cars I was shopping for.

It's complicated....
Spoiler
Just FYI, anyone who buys mfg direct and then sees a price drop, Uhm, you just paid over MSRP. haha OOPS! haha
Normally, when the gov issues a "tax credit" for consumers, all that happens is the price of the vehicle goes up. Turns into a big payout to the businesses, and the consumer sees little to nothing. But it only works if everyone plays along and raises prices. Elon decided to drop prices, so competitors couldn't steal the credit with higher prices because they won't get the volume they need to be profitable, even with the higher margins. Good for him.

This goes to show how quickly chinese EV makers are adopting Tesla tech. How much longer do you think Tesla have until it gets kicked out? Whatever volume and jobs Tesla provides now and lost can be absorbed by growing chinese domestic manufacturers. As a matter of fact, they would want them for the expertise gained while working at Tesla.
Ford is currently losing over $50,000 per EV sold, from what I gather they are hoping to be around 8% EV operating margin in 2026. Tough spot to be in the more EVs they sell they more money they lose. The more EVs replace ICE sales the less cash flow they have.

Tesla prices are in part set via algorithm based on real time sales data.

A huge start up venture like manufacturing an electric vehicle is going to lose money until expertise and production get to a certain point.
I am not a fan of the Mach E (and its ripped off name). I am not sure how an electric drivetrain will work in a pickup; especially with a load.
Time will tell. I think Tesla's price cuts are Ford, and everybody else's problem. They are already strapped.
