Default Another day, another Tesla...

I've been eyeing a Model S for a while, as I'm speed junkie as well as prefer larger cars in general. However, with last year's price increases, didn't think I would get a chance to own the Plaid that I really wanted. However, Dec 30 Tesla announced that they were discounting all S and X by -7500 as well! Needless to say, I jumped on it asap. Having had 3 Tesla's now (1 M3, 2 MYs), and being a self speed junkie, I guess this was the natural progression. Here are are my initial assessment after 1 day of ownership...

The Good : the 1002hp is so effortless, very similar in acceleration to my Zupra. Interior is much better than I expected (but still not on par w/ MB). Hatchback design makes it so useful to haul stuff. Sound system is one of the best on par with Lexus ML. And the profile on lowest air suspension setting makes for a great stance.

The Bad : the friggin Yoke is a joke; Fast transitional turns with aggressive driving is dangerous with it. Handling isn't bad, but you do feel the heft and understeer, so doesn't want to dance like a bimmer would.

The Ugly: once people see the plaid logo, they either gawk at you or want to race. Reminds me a lot of my Zupra when I first got it, but is annoying when you have your son in the car.

TL; DR : Great grand touring cruise that is roomy, comfortable, and fast, but needs more tuning in the handling dep and betrayed by an awkward yoke setup.

Now onto the mods...😁

Surprised you got the 21” wheels, I figured you would get the 19’s and save the $4,500 for some nice light forged wheels.

Also, congrats on getting the new headlights, tailights, swivel front screen, smaller bezeled rear screen and 16 RAM memory for gaming. Mine has none of that stuff!

I wonder how does msp compare to myp when it comes to consumption?

My main reason for ms lr would be to travel easier, and it is hard for me to test it here as they only have my and m3

MYLR = model Y long range
MYP = model Y Performance
msp = Model S Plaid
etc.

Thank you Bitkahuna!

I need to start writing these down and make myself a laminated card I can set by laptop so I can decode these EV discussions.

Plaid? Doesn’t sound like you needed the discount.
Does sound like you got a valid excuse.

ST430 - Let us know if you notice a drop off in power compared to the Model Y P you have when the charge is lower. I talked with an owner before and the drop off was pretty bad once the charge drops below a certain percentage (I can’t remember what percentage he told me but it was higher than I thought) but I only feel a loss of power when the charge is around 20% which is supposed to be much better than the other Teslas.

You have a lot of smaller cells in your pack, that's better for resisting the drop-off than a lot of larger ones.

Hi spwolf - I would not be a good indicator for mileage as I have a heavy lead foot and have occasions been known to consume 600-900+ wh at times :x

I'm surprised you are not considering a bz4x instead.
