Back to Ford, they know full well their 1st generation of EV truck is not optimized at all. Everything from efficiency, wiring, weight etc. will be improved in their next generation Farley is no dummy.
We just bought a 2023 F150 Powerboost hybrid recently. it has crazy acceleration and range. but to be honest, seeing dealers are charging msrp on the Lightening made me kind of regretting not wait for the Lightening.
Great post. Yeah, F150 interior materials are pretty subpar, even when you're in the six-figure-plus Lightning Platnium or Raptor R.
The interesting thing about the handling is that the Lightning, with its low battery and independent rear suspension, is actually the best-handling full-size truck I've driven (although, as you pointed out, it's certainly not what one would call 'good')
Nice review, ST430. I'd agree with most of that. I have a Platinum, so the interior is better than the Lariat you drove and while I think it's on just about on par with the benchmark Ram interiors, the MSRP on the Ford is quite a bit higher and I agree it could be better. The Platinum has a different interior and because mine is a 2022 it has all the things that were decontented on the 2023 like massaging seats, on board scales and a few other things.
I think the ride is good, it's certainly better than most trucks and I think a little better than my buddy's Ram which has air. A little extra weight, passengers or load front or back, makes a lot difference. You don't get the best ride out of any truck when it's empty and this one is no exception. Mine also has the larger and heavier 22 inch wheels and tires, and the extra weight probably helps a bit too.
I continue to love the power, it's about 4 seconds dead 0 to 60 and it pulls strongly up to triple digit territory. I've never wanted more.
I get about the expected 300 mile range. I'm averaging around 2.1 miles per kWh from new and I drive it hard enough that even a moderate relaxation in driving would push me well beyond the EPA range. The Lariat with the extended range battery has a 320 mile range, as it has smaller wheels and less equipment.
Ford isn't up to Tesla levels on their in car software or their app, but I've had a few major OTA software revisions which have added a new UI, new features and other general enhancements, and Ford has an early access program (which I'm in) where you can get certain updates ahead of time. In the last couple pf weeks alone we also got DC fast charge enhancements and an update on the range algorithm.
Overall I continue to be really happy with mine. I got lucky getting mine in 2022 as I got the tax credit. If I'd taken delivery in 23 I'd have been out of luck as my truck fails the MSRP test (I exceed the income limit anyway so it's moot all round) but with a 2022 at MSRP, which mine was, I had no decontenting issues and the full tax credit. MSRP on mine would have been another 5K now, so with 2022 MSRP plus credit it worked out as well as it could. Now you pay more for less.
I think Ford did a great job with these overall. I get a lot of people asking about it when they see it and have taken a few out for a quick test drive, and ST430, you're welcome to have a drive in mine anytime as we're Bay Area neighbors. The Platinum addresses at least some of your concerns, but mostly because the more you drive these the more things it reveals.
Thank you for sharing! This was awesome to hear a review from actual owner. What has real world range been like?

I’m getting just under 300, which is the official rating for my trim level, and could get over 300 quite easily with just a little less enthusiasm on the pedal. I’m averaging 2.1 to 2.2 miles per kWH since delivery.
