Trucks are basically luxury cars, that's all this will be too and for that it will work. It was interesting when they noted, however, that a gas engine would be better for passing when towing, at least with that.

The F-150 Lightning is 100 percent not for someone who will be towing anything over 5K lbs, at least at this point in time. You are right, Lightning is a luxury truck. It can carry a thousand lbs payload in the bed, and 400 lbs in the "frunk", but that's not why people will be buying this truck. Interestingly enough, Alex On Autos just got the Rivian truck and he tows his Dodge SRT SUV though the Santa Cruz mountains and he was was able to do 0 to 60 in 7 seconds towing almost 10,000 lbs. But the Rivain truck is like 700 hp with Quad motors

Those Rivians are starting to pop up around town, I think they look good.

How can it be worse range than expected when everybody expects 50 miles?

Someone in my nationhood just got one. To be honest, I don't like the front lights, kinda of gives it a Tonka truck look, but I could live with it. I'm also seeing more of them around town, still haven't seen a "live" Lightning yet

Motor Trend just did a Lightning vs Rivian comparison test and felt that the Ford was (just) the winner.

Let's see what this EV Silverado can do. I don't discriminate, I'm a GM guy yet feel pretty much the same about this as I do other electric trucks.

BTW I saw the new electric Hummer too, on the interstate. You can rip panels out to where it's like a Wrangler, convertible like which I wasn't aware of. It certainly had presence. Weight is horrible, *****ed about a lot by entities, yet it's fine all of the sudden that this thing weighs 10,000 pounds. You'll be breaking bridge laws with that thing, lol.

I think it's safe to say the Hummer is a big giant rich person's toy , unnecessary in every way, although people who have driven it says it's fun

Yeah that's the whole point of that one, I think. GM will be bringing us cheaper EVs.

I think it's going to take a long while for the technology to mature enough to supplant ICE for hauling/towing purposes.

You may well see electric trucks towing regularly in the future...but it'll be one or two generations removed from the current Lightning/Rivian/EV Hummer/EV Silverado.

It's still cool to watch, even if I'm sitting here enjoying my "old school" V8.

this was a VERY informative review sharing lots of cool details.

newsflash, the 300mi. EPA range is WITH 1000lbs in the truck! He's seeing much bigger available range.

This video didn't age well given the real life range numbers

Some of it can probably be blamed on beta software versions, but Ford probably shouldn't have let anyone put numbers or rumors of numbers out in the while until they were ready

the good news is that through software revisions, Ford can make the F-150 more efficient. As someone stated earlier, it will probably be one or two generations before towing heavy loads becomes a reality, but 50 percent of what makes an EV good is the software. Over 4 OTA updates later, and my Polestar has gotten way better, and efficiency has jumped from around 85-90 MPGe to over 100 MPGe. They also released an additional 10 miles of range by probably releasing some additional battery capacity

Gotta admit, who ever thought EV's would have any range at all for a full size truck even without towing anything.
Didn't think I would see it in my lifetime but the progress of these EV's is blowing my mind.

Before I went to college I went to a trade school for auto electric in early 1990's and cars didn't really have that much electronics in them and bored me quick.
Yeah a lot of wires and switches and starting to go towards electronic throttle body but I wanted something much deeper than that and viola- fast forward 30 years later and with EV's, auto electric will be everything while engine mechanics not needed anymore.

The Lightening is huge step forward in my opinion even if it's not perfect for some applications but have to admit the engineering challenges are astronomical while staying on budget.
+1 for the Lightening for everything I've read in this thread, just my opinion.
