Its a discussion bit, I'm not the only one participating in it either. The styling is just one facet of the discussion. The styling came up again in response to a question about the aerodynamics and what was gained out of its design.
Can't talk about this car without bringing up the styling. It dominates the discussion because it should, the exterior is a design catastrophe. It's not easy making a high end luxury car look like a low rent Dodge sedan from 2002 but Mercedes has done it.
Given how much of a drop the EQS range was in the EPA testing compared to its WLTP measurement (485 miles), I bet that the EQE won't even break 300 EPA miles with its WLTP range of 410 miles.
mercedes and bmw have had numerous cases of controversial designs or design changes over the years. they then evolve those designs and suddenly they become accepted and even popular. we'll see what happens this time.

not with the bmw i-ugly line up with that obnoxious grill, there is no fixing that.

same was said the bmw 'bangle butt', the s-class weird rear wheel arch, and on and on. they evolved.
it's almost like they deliberately swing the pendulum past 'ok' to force a perspective change, then adjust styling to bring the pendulum back to a new normal later.
Saabs 9-3 and 9-5 used a clamshell hood to good effect.
It would have looked nice for the clamshell to go from the apex of the front wraparound lights to the apex of the front side vent pane in the Mercedes EQS.
Actually, a conventional hood line that lines up with the A pillar that is continuous with the roofline and C pillar - just like an old 3 Series or a Tesla Model S or even a Lexus LC coupe - may be best, because it is simple, neat, and gives the monocoque maximum strength; the bigger the opening in the egg shell-like monocoque, the more compromized the rigidity.
Clamshell hoods look clean, but do compromize the monocoque just a little.
The other factor is symmetry.
If they use a clamshell hood at the front, then symmetry prefers a matching clamshell trunk at the back - just like the Mazda MX-02 prototype from the 1980's above.^^^^
Note how the MX-02 above even has clamshell wraparound windows just like the 1990-98 BMW 3 Series below.

and yeah they make the quip about the shape too, haha...
Like a Rolls-Royce Phantom, the EQS is a capsule of luxury and silence that pours itself down the road with unerring grace. Unlike a hard-to-swallow Rolls, the EQS looks like an Advil Liqui-Gel.
however, overall, they're blown away by the things that really matter, like ride quality and silence. the eqs450 seems like an amazing bargain!
and yeah, i still love the futuristic look, especially in black.

Not sure if I'm allowed to comment, but I will anyways. Styling matters a lot lol. This is not a commuter car you just stomach the styling of because its economical and gets the job done well. This is an extravagant ultra luxury car.
If all I wanted was a car that rode well and was really quiet I would still have my Lexus LS, probably one of the older ones.

I think everyone gets the point that you do not like this cars styling.
