i've not heard it ever expressed that way and don't think that's true either. homes typically have 100 or 200 AMP service. now because W = V * A you can say that 120V @ 200A which is 24kW delivery or 24kWh PER HOUR. or 240v @ 200A would be 48kW.
Sorry, I meant AMP, not kW. I guess I need to apologize. Nope 🤣

Still, the amount of electricity used is listed as kWh on my electricity bill, as well as my solar generation

The amount "being generated" is listed as kW

One Tesla battery is about 250,000,000 joules. And yes that infographic is wildly wrong but then again people believe all kinds of insane nonsense about EVs. One I get a lot is people think I need to charge my battery to full every day I have no idea why. Even when I tell them the range it still doesn't click.

I just ask if they get gas every day. If their car with x miles per tank doesn't need to refill daily, why would my vehicle with 300+ miles of range (well 274 on the Rivian )

ha, yes, quantity used in a period of time is kWh. quantity being used at an instant in time is kW. the bill is quantity used over a month, so kWh.

Yep, if you think about it like water filling a pool:

Rate: kW=gallons/minute; how fast the water is coming out of the hose.
Quantity: kWh=gallons; how much water is in the pool when you turn the spigot off.

Some additional interesting background on the Rivian / VW joint venture and why VW went with it. They've already hired a bunch of talent from Rivian and struggled mightily to improve their software offering since 2020.

Tomorrow the wife and I are heading out to a camping trip to the Sequoia National Forest and will be meeting up with other family members from the SoCal side. I would take the Y, but I don't want to get it all dirty 🤣 So I'm taking the Sienna. It just makes it so much easier, just put down the rear seats and throw everything in!

Because it's already all beat up, I don't really care how dirty we make it inside (and we will be making it dirty). When we get back, I'll just sweep it out . Only thing is, Gas is like $7 a gallon up there, but I'm betting I can make it there and back with only one stop to fill up (it's 217 miles each way). Model Y would be one 30 minute stop on the way and one stop on the way back

Because of the length of time and inconvenience it takes to refill with an EV if you let it run down and then need that range. Plus, EV listed range is generally BS.

It’s always amazing to me how much my wife packs for 2 days somewhere. Every time I think the car is packed here she comes with 5 more bags. And 5 more. And 5 more…

We are literally camping for two days, but to be fair, we are meeting family there and dividing the food, who is bringing what ect. As far as clothes, she packed like we are going for two weeks, while I packed three shorts, three shirts, and three underclothing.....
