Default 2024 Auto Head Light feature

Hello everyone, I recently purchased a 24 ES300H UL trim, my 1st Lexus and I am very happy with my decision on this beauty. Eminent White with Acorn. I have been a long time Audi owner with my last car being a 2016 A7 Diesel and this car is just as fun.

I've noticed that when I leave the headlights on auto, the lights tend to stay on when their is plenty of light/sunshine out. My specific scenario is that the lights come on when I am in my garage and as I back out onto the driveway while its clearly bright out, the lights continue to stay on.

I do have a Ezpass fixed under the rear view mirror below the dot matrix print on the windshield. Could that be causing it? Should I lower the sensitivity of the lights in the menu they are currently set to Normal.

Any advice would be appreciated. Happy to be apart of this forum.

There should be a setting in the car that you choose the sensitivity to which turn on the auto headlights. I have mine turned pretty low so that quick drive through and underpass on the highway doesn't kick them on and off unnecessarily.

Are you maybe referring to daytime running lights?

No. The headlight control sensor is the black button-looking object located in the dash's center speaker grill. On page 164 of the 2024 LEXUS ES300H OWNER'S MANUAL USA AND CANADA ONLY, there's an illustration showing the location of the sensor in the speaker grill.

I went into the light settings and lowered it down by one, and that seemed to do the trick. I will test between that and normal to see if that's much of a difference. Appreciate everyone's advice.

Out of curiosity, why did you disable the DRL’s?

Aesthetics mostly. I know they reduce traffic accidents by like 8%, but Im driving a huge white car, I'm not really blending into anything it's pretty visible. Also Lexus gave us the option to turn it off.

Ok, though with the legions of SUV’s choking our roads, the ES no longer appears “huge”, regardless of color.
