Hi guys, I found out the rear traffic auto braking is a bit too sensitive.
is there a way to disable it or to reduce the sensitivity?

See the "Enabling/Disabling the Parking Support Brake" section of the Owners Manual.

Be aware that turning it off turns off more than just rear auto traffic detection and braking. From the manual:

"All of the Parking Support Brake functions (static objects, rear crossing vehicles, and rear pedestrians) are enabled/disabled simultaneously."

Find a less sensitive setting. The feature is very useful. It stopped me from backing into a ladder, laying in the driveway.

And an idiot that walked behind my moving car while I was backing out at a Home Depot... This feature saved my a$$...

I'm not a lawyer but I am wondering if you rIsk additional liability in an accident because you disabled a safety feature on your car, especially if it happened while you were backing up.

How would anyone even know? How would they even know you had that option?

When they depose you, they are going to ask a lot of questions about what happened. The insurance company may even examine the car depending on how serious things are.

Your 7th Gen ES car will squeal on you.

It is no secret and lawyers definitely know about it, cars now-a-days have Event Data Recorders. God forbid anyone reading the Owner's Manual, but it's all disclosed in gory detail right up front in the "For your information" section under the "Vehicle data recording" and "Event data recorder" headings. As a data types recorded bullet point under "Vehicle data recording" you'll find:

"Operation status of the driving assist systems, such as the ABS and pre-collision system"

grp52 is correct, you can turn off 1) the Auto Braking (front/rear/cross) and still have the Park Assist
chimes active or 2) you can turn off the Park Assist and defeat everything. Older Lexi had the ability
to change the Park Assist range front, rear or both between two distances. That setting is gone but
now we have the much more often used "Mute" to silence the chimes when triggered by drive though
flags and banners. Not the original posters question but you can now change the distance range of
the Blind Spot Monitor between four (4) distances and also change the brightness of the mirror mounted
icons. Solid yellow when car is flanking you, fast flashing yellow icon if you put on that side turn signal.

I'm not an attorney (Are you Peter?) and I leave ALL of my safety devices always on but it wouldn't be very difficult to turn the safety devices back on after the accident unless the car lost all power and functionality. The situation you describe is possible but highly unlikely!

i'm not an attorney either. The car computer logs events, e.g. during a collision. They will disclose the data to police or court order. It records everything that's going on with the car in the event of a collision. Read pages 6 to 9 of your owner's manual.

Does this apply to the 2019 Luxury ES350? If so, how does one change the distance range of the BSM and change the brightness of the mirror mounted icons?

Thanks in advance for responding.

Press left steering wheel spoke "Menu" button (three overlapping pages w/return arrow)
Four arrow square rocker left or right until "Settings" icon appears lit up (sprocket or gear icon similar to your phone's settings icon)
Down through settings until you find "Vehicle Settings" Press Four Square center "OK"
Down to "BSM" and press OK. Now you can toggle through range and brightness. Nothing to it, right?
Note: BSM triggers when your speed is above 15 MPH. Do not think it is broken when it does not signal an adjacent car at a stop light.

Assuming you got the option package that include BSM, the best instructions I've found is a How-To video on Lexus Drivers web site. The 3:24 minute long video HOW-TO USE THE MULTI-INFORMATION DISPLAY SETTINGS IN THE 2019 ES demonstrates going through all the settings with a text side bar in the video that briefly states the options for the setting.

Thanks to those who responded on how to adjust settings for BSM and the brightness of the warning in the outside mirrors.s. I checked this out today, and found that both my range and brightness were already set as desired. I appreciate those who posted clear instructions for how to check and adjust these settings.
