I would argue that each Lexus model is marketed to a different audience and Lexus has clearly tried to set their flagship sedan apart from their other vehicles - and it is priced accordingly. They obviously don't want the LS to lose sales to their mainstream sedans. Just look at how they watered down the NX to ensure it didn't rob sales from the RX. I believe all manufacturers do this targeted marketing with vehicle designs and options. Even so, I believe most "average folk" would consider the ES more than a utility appliance, but perhaps not the LS audience you are entertaining.

Anyway, your subjective evaluation is clearly your opinion and that's fair enough. Of course, you were also using a base model non-nav ES for your comparison. In my humble opinion, the Audi A6 that started this thread is a much closer comparison to the ES than the LS, which would likely be compared to the Audi A8. It just doesn't seem like a logical comparison. I would also point out that some of your criticisms, such as the placement of the drive mode **** (which I actually dislike as well), would apply to the new LS design as well.
appreciate your thoughts, and if offended any one not the idea or intent
tried to provide commentary that was different than the typical kool aid kind of stuff

put 400 miles on the car, very good car with a nice ride.
getting 21 mpg with mixed driving, transmission hiccuping multiple times with shifts, seat cushion on bottom too thin, electronics interface sub par and wheel spin in the rain is certainly not pursuit of perfection.
handles better than my ls460, more toss able, better safety tech it beats an older ls.
with appliance comment its more that the car is a great utility piece for reliability and great safe transportation.
when i got back in the LS made me realize how crazy this world is that these cars are commanding 50k just seems misaligned for what your getting,
thanks for your response i appreciated it.

Bear in mind that a well optioned LS is commanding near $100k. $50k is just not a lot of money for a car anymore...our Pacifica minivan was $50k.

When you compare the ES to what you can get from other luxury makes for $50k the value proposition starts to come into line.

Wow - hopefully the $50k for the Pacifica was MSRP and you got a steep discount typical of most of the domestics.

I agree, a friend of mine just purchased a 2019 Honda Pilot Elite for $49k out the door. It seems that $50k is the new standard price to pay for a vehicle.

Agreed. Take a look at the top end of the Toyota Sienna. $49,190. I believe that was the BASE of the top model, so options can drive it up from there.

Oh yes lol. $13k.

Although, I got over $20k off of my LS also.

Times are changing. Stuff just costs more. I see plenty of families here w/ the new Honda Odyssey Elite. It's a $50k minivan.

Cars are bigger and therefore more materials. More materials=more money
