First time I drove my 350 ES in winter weather (usually outa' here before it gets bad) and a new icon came on the dashboard next to the outdoor temp reading. I'm assuming it's an icon warning of icy roads, since the outdoor temperature reading was 33 degrees (It looked like an "x" over a roadway? Am I right?). In fact, the roads were not icy, just wet, but they could have had an invisible icy spot on them and I appreciated the heads up. Smart car! (pardon the pun)
The temperature gauge in my Camry was broken due to it being replaced after an accident, so it would read 15 degrees even though it was 110 out, and I'd get a good laugh whenever that alert would come up.
My 3-Series from 2002 (and by extension 1999 first MY) used to beep as well when the temp hit about 32 degrees. You'd get a BEEP and a snowflake icon. Retro.
older germans could have had it too, not sure. I forget if my older 3-Series had it. Lots of features we think are new or "nice touches" today, were actually thought of by the germans decades ago.

I think my late 1990's SAAB had that. Now THAT was a cool car and those cars also went forever! Shame they discontinued the traditionally styled model and then quit altogether.
Exact same thing happened to me today, so this is a timely thread for me. BTW, Saab's light was called the "Icelert." A unique feature at the time, and I think they got there first. IIRC, it'd blink around 32 and then stay on solidly when colder.

Those cars were made for snowy, icy weather like they have in Scandinavia. Loved those 900's and 9-5's.
Actually toured the Volvo factory in Gothenburg---same genre.

On my old 3 Series, it used to scare the crap out of me when it chimed. Especially at the beginning of the season.
