Default Android Auto volume issues

Is anyone else having Android Auto volume issues? I'm having trouble with the following:
  • I can't seem to be able to adjust the navigation volume: When I change the volume up and down as the navigation instructions are issued, the audio volume changes instead.
  • Spotify volume is OK but when I switch to another app (e.g. Audible), the volume either either too high or too low.
I've tried adjusting the volume on the phone (always at the highest level) and I'm not having the same issues when using headphones or a different AA system (wife's car for example)
if it makes any difference, I'm using a cable to connect rather than the BT connection.

Same. I'm getting a new phone in a week. I'll see if this makes it so I can adjust the volume of text messages being read aloud...like other cars.

My dashboard volume control is often ineffective when I’m listening to Pandora through CarPlay via my Apple iPhone. Disconcerting (pardon the pun)!

In Google Maps, if you click on your user icon and go to Settings, then Navigation Settings, there is an item for guidance volume. Unfortunately it only has three levels.
