I am hoping to find out 100% so as to how to set my battery tender and eventual replacement.

Don’t bother with documentation. Take the battery out. Shake it slightly, and you can hear water sloshing around. AGM is dead silent and can be tipped upside down.
My amateur guess is that it's AGM for the same reason as in the Prius: It's in an enclosed compartment, so it requires a technology that (even if vented) doesn't releaase toxic gases.
No, AGM batteries are used on cars, mostly with auto stop start that require a lot of el. power (starting the engine, use of all the electronics when the engine is off).
In the trunk or under the hood, that does not matter.
Again, I replaced my 12V battery and it is acid, not AGM.
P.S. To my knowledge no Prius has AGM battery but a 20Hr 45 Ah normal battery.
703 you are right about the test of shaking to tell but I didn't want to have to do that unless there was no other way and that is why I was trying to find out another way. I think so many people think this should be an agm is what is causing the confusion and also the fact that here in the US nobody crosses this over to there brand which is real strange if it is just a normal battery. The people here that have replaced these with agm and having gas mileage problems is probably because the hybrid charging system is not designed for agm . Toyota and Lexus has been using AGM batteries in their hybrids from the first Prius up to until 2018 then most models in most markets switched over to flooded lead acid batteries to cut cost.
The charging system is different as voltage and resistance between AGM and Lead Acid is different. If you put a lead acid on a car designed for AGM the battery life is shortened. If you put AGM in a lead acid car then the AGM doesn’t get fully charged.
3rd Gen Prius/4th Gen Prius & CT200h uses AGM batteries. In any event none of us hybrid owners will need to know in less than 10 years more than likely. Even then i'd just buy OE or whatever the auto parts store has at the time.
I never saw a Toyota or Lexus product with AGM battery, and I work on them every day.
They don’t look different to the untrained eye. But once you know, you know. Cars I have brought - Gs450h, ES300h, Rx450h, Camry Hybrid all came with OEM Panasonic AGMs made in Japan.
There are also regulations in certain countries where battery must be spill proof when inside the car like the boot in an event of an accident.
I have a 2015 ES, bought new. Still on original battery but am going to replace it tomorrow. It's not holding the charge as well as it should and don't want to be stuck in winter.
Ok I started and reviving this thread after 2 years because it is time or getting close to time to replace the aux battery. This is mainly targeted toward the hybrid as the charging is totally different than the non hybrid. There were reports of gas mileage being impacted by putting in wrong battery in past and checking to see if any that have changed the battery in there hybrid with an AGM experienced any gas mileage change. Costco and Interstate do not even list a battery for this Lexus but if I put in Toyota Avolon hybrid it comes up as an AGM which we do not have (fact) on my 2020 anyway. Walmart is same as not listing a Lexus but will Avolon hybrid and brings up lead acid and AGM. Although Auto Zone does list the ES hybrid and correctly has the OEM as a flooded battery. Sure you can put the right group in but will putting in an AGM have adverse effects. I am sure our unique charging system uses internal resistance and other characteristics. I am leaning toward the walmart lead acid as I think that is more tailored to what we have but would really like to know if the AGM will work just as good or better in the hybrid. I am trying to avoid the ICE having to run longer to charge the hybrid battery that charges the aux battery which will affect gas mileage.
