Default Scout App - No Lexus Navigation

I do not have Lexus Navigation, but downloaded the Scout App. (I have a Google Android phone.) The Scout App displays the written directions, but not a map. Is this the best this app can do? If I did have an Apple phone would a map display or would I still only get written directions, but still no map?

With a Crapple phone, you would use Carplay to display your google maps on the big screen. Im not familar with Scout but Ive read its not impressive.

Why not use Google Maps or Waze?

You can't see anything on an Android on the big screen.

Yep - that's basically what he was asking. Should he get a Crapple phone instead of Android because he wants to project it..

Try plugging the Android phone into the USB port (not 12v plug). This is how the Apple version brings a map to the screen.

Correct, not Android Auto...Scout. Turn by turn (only) with Bluetooth, rudimentary map when USB corded.

Having never purchased or owned an Apple product before, I bought a refurbished iPhone 6s 64 GB on Amazon for $180 about a month or 2 ago just to use Google Maps on the big screen and listen to Amazon Ultra HD music in its full glory. I'm basically happy with the purchase and the arrangement, but it has its quirks and limitations. Here's what it looks like.

If you Google "Google Maps on CarPlay'" there are a lot of other articles with screenshots.

Wow, it seems that some of the Android owners do not like Apple products ('Crapple'). Everyone has the right to their own opinion. But this is a Lexus Forum. I have had several iPhones over many years. All I know is that an iPhone does Google Maps and Waze really well. The Lexus 12.3 inch screen shows everything nicely.

I have seen comments that the 2020 ES will support Android Auto, with a software update for the 2019. Since I think the 2020 is out, many people on this forum will know for sure.

Android does those things just as well but does other things so much better. Again - just my opinion. But this is a Lexus forum so let's continue discussing cars - I agree with that.
