Smile Additional theft security with fob setting

This is described in my 2021 ES350 OM but I came across it on the Inet. Some many know this feature. It is an additional theft security feature plus save fob battery if car not used for a spell.

I use it at shopping malls where car theft is more probable from fob signal scanners . Also use it if you leave your car in the drive way at your house and leave the fob inside the front door relatively close to car where car thieves with fob signal scanners are looking for such ripe takings and scan the fob signal that is always on. My car lives in the locked garage.

When engine is shut off and leaving the car I do not lock it by the usual touch door handle way, instead I press and hold the fob lock icon and then press the unlock icon twice about a second apart and release the lock icon. The car will lock (my mirrors fold in) and the fob signal will be shut down and if you try to unlock the car by grabbing the door handle you will not be able to unlock. To deactivate just press the fob unlock icon once.

There is another method: aluminum foil blocks the signal from the key fob also. (Wrapping the fob in foil is commonly used to contain the signals.)
I keep my fob on a shelf just inside the door from the basement to the garage. Keeping a fob in or near the car can cause the battery to drain prematurely, because the car and fob are always looking for each other. But instead of putting the fob into what Lexus calls "sleep mode," I have a little box that I lined with aluminum, which is more convenient, and would also stymie the signal stealers described by Zul. Be sure to test your safety box by putting the fob in it and bringing it close to the doors to see if the touch controls on the door handles are operative.

Agreed as well to your approach. I put fob in metal box at home inside house to keep fob signal from talking to car.
I still do the fob 3 touch deactivate noted in post at crowded shopping malls and other places away from home

From what I understand, Mike, a faraday pouch and aluminum foil do the same thing.
