You might be correct - I had a white 2013 and I think they did yellow a bit. It isn't noticeable on other colors though.

bc... help me out here... I have a 2013 ES.. I have the clear applique on the top part of my rear bumper, but I have never noticed any others on the fenders or doors. Just exactly where are they supposed to be located and are they on all 2013 models? If not on all models, then what is the determining factor as to why some have them and some not... where they an add on you could purchase from the dealer? When I bought my car it was the only one they had that was the color I wanted so there was never any talk about adding anything. Just curious. Thanks.

I'm not bc, but I can help.

They are located on the lower area just in front of the rear wheels. It may extend to the back of the rear door, but I can't check right now. People that are missing them, probably had some paint work done and they were never replaced. They are on my 2013.

My, my, you're up early. I just got up and I'll go into the garage and take a photo Roland. Give me a few minutes.

OK, here is a photo of driver's side rear door forward of the wheel. Been raining here for days and the car needs a wash...

Bc ( and Mike ) thanks for the info.. Bc.. really appreciate you running out to the garage to get that pic... It really could have waited til you were going somewhere, but I appreciate it. Now that I've seen the pic, I have seen those on my Es..... Oh, and not up early, up late. I worked straight evenings for 33 years and never got home til after midnight and normally didn't hit the rack til 4am or so... retired 18 months and still on that same schedule... I'm usually up, showered and shaved at the crack of noon. lol. Thanks again.

They are to protect the paint. I removed mine because one they were collecting dirt and were very obvious and second the chance of getting a rock chip there is one in a million.

I should go buy a lottery ticket then because I manage to get rock chips in the most bizarre places.

The paint on these cars is definitely more prone to rock damage than years ago. I have some older Toyotas and none of them have the same rock damage the Lexus has experienced and it is the newest of the bunch.

I think that the areas that are protected by the film in question are actually spots that are more prone to damage caused by small rocks. I know that, after the car is washed, those areas are the first ones where I will see new streaks from mud thrown up into those areas by the front wheels, and, if the front wheels are throwing mud up into those areas, they are likely to throw small pieces of gravel there, too.

Heat gun and some dental floss ought to do it. Follow with some Goo-Gone.
If we are all correct then you can follow that next year with some touch up paint,,,LOL

If the car is relatively new, Lexus will replace them under goodwill. Had mine replaced at the 5k service interval.
