Default Spots in paint after minor body work

I scraped my rear door and the rear fender behind it. The repair turned out great, but towards the front of the rear door, there are spots in the paint. It’s my understanding that they did not repaint the entire door since the damage was only on the rear section. The area with the spots would have either not been painted at all, or is where the new paint was blended with the old.

Does anyone recognize these types of spots? The panel feels smooth as glass and these spots do not exist anywhere else on the car, even on the front door panel adjacent to the rear door that was repaired.

They don’t look like water spots. I’m wondering if this is either overspray or if they burned through the clear coat when they buffed/sanded this door after the repair?

In this photo, the front door is on the left and the rear door is on the right.

Here’s the damage before the repair, it’s not near the area with the spots.

Hard to say what happened, improperly mixed paint?

When you went to pick up your car, inspected it, and paid the bodyshop, did you not notice the spots?

Probably overspray of some sort or in a worst case scenario, contamination under the clearcoat (since you say the paint feels smooth to the touch). In either case, take it back and have them fix it, it looks like ******. I can only imagine how bad it looks in person. I would not have paid a penny for a job like that.

I did notice the spots and asked them and they essentially told me they didn’t paint in that area and implied the spots must have already been there. I already knew the car had water spot damage in various places and just assumed at the time that’s what it was. But the fact there are not any spots on the drivers door makes me believe this is related to the repair.

I was in a rush when I picked up the car, I’ll stop back there in the next couple of days and see what they say.

If you can determine what kind of damage it is, then you'll have a better idea if it was them that caused it. You would think that if the door looked like that before, then they would have wanted to repaint the whole thing, as they will obviously inspect the entire panel before deciding what to do on a job like this. If there is absolutely no trace of it on other panels, then its likely it was caused by them, as they would have covered adjacent panels. So whether it is from burning through your clearcoat or overspray, the fact that it is only on that one panel gives it away that it was likely caused during the job. It is hard to say what it is from the photo. A closer photo of the spots would possibly help. You could also take it to another reputable shop and tell them what happened and have them take a quick look at it. They could probably tell you exactly what happened and what it is. If they're helpful, give your business to that shop in the future...Or get a refund and have the new shop do the job.
