Ouch...that’s going to cost a pretty penny. They will need to sand both panels and fuel door and try to blend the rest of the rear door and that rear fender. Looks like your car is Atomic Silver too, which is probably one of the more difficult colors to blend. Make sure to find a reputable paint shop...sometimes it helps to ask the dealer who they use since they probably sometimes encounter damage to new cars and get it fixed to be undetectable.

If I had posted before dchar did, I would have made exactly the same points that he did.
What is especially important is to understand that the Atomic Silver (if that is the color of your car), is one of the most difficult colors for which to get an acceptable color match. It is a 4-stage (maybe a 5-stage) paint color. Blending the new paint into adjacent panels will be a must with that color (or any similar multi-stage color). The blending will not make the paint match any better, but what it will do is to spread out the less than perfect match over a wider area and (you hope) make it unnoticeable. You really do want to make sure that you get the best shop that you can to do the work, and, yes, it will not be a simple or inexpensive repair.
ouch, just curious how did that happen? the other day I nearly dodged a picnic table in the middle of the highway.
You 'nearly dodged' or you just 'dodged' ? Those new drive-up restaurants are popping up everywhere. Maybe this comment is too close to the nerves, but I know exactly what you meant.

Overconfidence in the "overhead" view. There was a ventilation fan in the parking garage mounted gas-door high. The overhead view showed clear but missed the fan because it was higher than the side cameras. So the appearance was all clear, the reality not so much.
On the bright side, it was my wife driving so I get to tease her about putting the first scratch on the car.
I feel for you also. I'm being really careful not to screw up my perfect new car, but my day is coming... I think we are all interested in how the repair goes.

I will keep you updated, but I expect it will be a fair amount of time before I make time to get it fixed. We'll probably wait until the 5k checkup unless the wisdom of the crowd here tells me their is a reason to jump to it.

Hi Steve300h,
I wish you the best with the repair and sorry to hear it happened at all.
The only wisdom I can offer is that it is such a beautiful car, I couldn't live with it having the blemish so my vote is to get her fixed ASAP!! :-)
