First thing was to remove shield from exhaust manifold. Considering that P420 was permanent and we couldnt erased it ,we were thinking that we had pin hole.
Soap with water was used to see if any bubbles coming out.remember only you can do it on cold engine firstv5 min or less. After warming up its impossible to see bubbles. Step 2 was removal of O2 sensor bank 1 sensor 1. Deep cleaning with MAF sensor cleaner. We added a lot of seafoam via O2 port again ,fladding cat.
Next step was to check for leak on flanges of heat recovery unit (EGR box). No issues there .
Than we activated MAINTENANCE MODE and car were runing for long time with a lot of white smoke ,due to seafoam.
Than we went on hoist and clean second o2 sensor. That was Bank 1 sensor 2. It was a bit dirty. After cleaning completed we added again seafoam via O2 cavitie .
After runing in maintenance mode about 1 hour at low speed time was to get some readings. As you cam see Sensor 1 was going up and down ,running ritch than lean and so on ,that is the way it should be. Sensor 2 was steadily about 0.7 also the way it should be.No trim adjustment needed. Voltage was in range .
top one was Bank1 sensor 1
bottom was Bank 1 sensor 2 We added more components to watch and all good.
After we try to kill code P420 which was permanent, but guess what it wasn't there anymore .Even Code P219A was gone. SO CLEANING O2 SENSORS AND CLEANING CAT AND INTAKE COLD AIR PLENUM WAS ENOUGH TO GET RID OF STUPID CODE P420 AND P219A.
We save a lot of money because we were reading some option to solve that issue ,buy new O2 sensors ,buy new cat ,buy new spark plugs, but new ECT sensor etc etc.
We were so happy with results that we took Rx 450h and clean all O2 sensors as prevention and painted Catalytic and muffler too.It was fun to have multi color bottom of cars.Than we protected couple steel transmission lines because they started to be rusty.See pictures it was just for fun. Very old but looks nice when painted ,o think this one was aftermarket one. Muffler into yellow.
It still working but i think cat will be soon replaced because looks like one aftermarket with cheap parts inside. Transsmission lines protected. Than frame and control arms into RED. Than oil pan in orange lol.it was fun
I really enjoy reading your posts on here, gives me lots of great info on how to work on my own vehicle if I were to have any of these issues. I always tried to fix any issue I could in my old 2008 Honda Accord, so it's awesome that I should still be able to do most things on here.
Are you a mechanic? Or just really good at doing your own things DIY? What software are you using that lets you view all of this information? I have a fancy OBDII scanner device, but nothing like the software you have.
no i am not mechanic -just enthusiast.I like improve some stuff on cars to run longer and great probblem solving skils.Always try to prevent if possible .I do not like downtime much.We have good mechanic that we use his garage frrom time to time .regarding software we use tech stream. But really i cant comment much because moderator is very sensitive about this software .Anyway there is a lot of app you can download from web app store for free and buy some blue tooth dongle and do all diagnostic.Remember always use common sense. If it any issue with car try to find source.bottom line lexus is by far most reliable car on the market old or used or new really doesnt matter....thay all running..i never got stranded on side of the road never use toving truck lexus allways gave me worning sign before something must be fixed.Hybrid got limp mode that you can still drive on petrol engine and fix problem at home and sAVE TONS OF MONEY.
