Default 2011 ES350 Shiny part of arm rest flaking

Hello,
I have a 2011 ES350 and the shiny trim piece around the arm rest is flaking off (both driver and passenger side front). This trim piece goes around the wood that holds the door locks and window switches. Everything works fine, but I don’t like the appearance of the flaking chrome/shiny plastic piece. I’m only finding entire assembly part numbers online and that is WAY expensive. Does anyone know the part number to replace just the chrome trim pieace? The dealer gave me a quote of about $80 a piece and another 130 per hour to install. I’d like to buy the parts cheaper and install myself…any help would be much appreciated!!

My computer is very secure so it won’t allow me to upload photos. Follow this link, as mine looks similar except I have the dark wood vs light.

Unfortunately, this is a common problem. Mine has it, and there's not much that can be done. Some had theirs replaced under warranty while they still were able. One guy was going to check into having a shop try to rechrome the plastic. I've thought about trying some chrome paint, but I'm afraid it will look worse. As far as I know, there isn't really a solution other than trying to find the piece you pointed out and hope it doesn't deteriorate quickly. That's one of the big things that bugs me bout my 2011.

If you buy the part, you can install it yourself using some plastic trim panel tools. It just pops out very carefully. Don't break the clips. I've popped mine out to insert some foam insulation around the bezel. I have the UL package with the Mark Levinson stereo, and I use it. The bass causes a rattle from that area that I've had to address with the aforementioned method.

Here's a link to the old thread on it:

Appreciate the reply! For all those who are also interested...I found a great price on replacement parts on ebay for much less than the dealership. The seller is GenuinePartsPlanet...the two front part numbers are 74235-33020 and 74236-33020.

I had this issue on my 2010 Lexus ES 350 that I purchased a couple of years ago - Certified by Lexus dealership. I purchased all 4 trim pieces from Amazon.com from a seller at a very reasonable price (it was less than half of what their retailed for at my local Lexus dealership). It's easy to replace them yourself, the 'wood' panel separates from the chrome trim.

I have since noticed the chrome peeling from the front grill surround and the wood trim surround under the glove box (by the glove box release button). They will be getting replaced soon.

Also note that I made a forum post about this and a very helpful gentleman guided me witht he part number. To my understanding, this problem is specific to the 2010 model (perhaps some early 2011 models too), and Lexus soon introduced an updated part with an updated part number.

Unfortuantely, I do not have record of my amazon purchase, but I encourage you to look for that post - Either by looking at my past posts or searching the forum.

Good luck!

Okay, I was able to find the post and the two most relevant comments:

The chrome chipping off the door trim in image 15.....is covered by a TSP bulletin (L-SB-0048-11) that will replace all 4 doors. I'm surprised they did not replace those automatically?

I'm not impressed with there so called reconditioning a Certified Lexus should have.......image 6 shows a drivers seat bottom that should be cleaned. Same with both front floormats. Skimping on cleaning. They washed it and are selling it..... they did not "clean" it. I have that same color interior and it has never looked like that.

Also: Ask to see the printout of the Certification checklist they preformed. They should have given it a brake job. oil change etc. Whatever the owners manual says the next service would require. The 161 point checklist is contained in the attached link. When we purchased a Certified '94 ES300 back in 1997 they were required to do a brake job, install new tires no matter what the old ones looked like...I even specified the Michelins I wanted on it. We paid up to buy it there but did get "value" for it.
ps: I read the current 161 point check list and they no longer fit new tires or do a brake job or even have to change the oil if it "looks good" Soo much for the "Gold Standard" of a preowned car!!!!

Get the vin number and check out it's history https://drivers.lexus.com/lexusdrivers/history

Complete service history is a plus! When I bought mine, also got it pre-owned, that was a major decision point for me as well...

For those trim pieces, not sure how many you need, the driver's side updated one is 74236-33020, passenger side is 74235-33020. I found them on eBay but they are the original part number. If you are close to the border, I'd consider buying them in US, quite a bit cheaper there Or look into getting them from a wrecking yard from a 2012 model, those will have the latest version of the trims...

Hope this helps!
