Default Daytime Running Lights

I just purchased an 07 ES 350. While I am very pleased with all the feature rich amenities, I have one problem. Is there a sequence to turn off day time running lights?. I noticed in manual, it is an custom option, but also says only a Lexus dealer has equipment to do this. Does anyone know if there is a sequence? I did see a section where you can re-wire, but would perfer to just enter a code if one exists. Thanks.

Congrats on your purchase. There is more than one thread on here with instructions on how to do this. Do a search.

I question why anyone would want to do this. I know...it's personal preference. But it does make the more noticeable in daylight on the highway, which is a very good thing.

I don't like Daytime Running Lights either and had mine turned off by the dealer the day after I bought the car. Unlike some cars there is not sequence or procedure which will disable the DRL's - you will have to have it done by a Lexus dealer. You may even have to remind them that DRL's are not required in United States and because you are not the first owner having it done within 6 mos. or whatever it is of your purchase they may charge you to make the change. I wouldn't recommend getting involved with wiring modifications when it is a simple task with the proper tool/computer.

Enjoy your car.

Default Day Time Running Lights

Thanks for your input........My reasoning on this is that my other car a 01 Chevy s10 pickup has DRL and had to replace the alternator. I may be wrong but, I think with them on all the time, it put's extra strain on the alternator causing it to wear out prematurely.

I haven't really noticed any difference during the day seeing another vehicle unless it is raining and we all should be putting the lights on anyway. Just my opinion.

Since I just bought the car, maybe they will do it at no charge. Will check it out.

You had a bad alternator. To suggest the DRL had anything to do with its failure is...well, the stats would suggest otherwise.

If DRL caused alternator issues, the forums would be running wild with compliants, to say nothing of what the dealer's service departments would be up to.

I've had DRL on vehicle for years without issue. In fact I think they are a huge safety features worth whatever headaches they might cause. One prevented accident, because the other driver saw you, is worth it...even if it did cost me an alternator ever few years.

Keep the DRL on...

I'm pro-DRL. IMO they may not be too stylish, but I think it's a real good idea for other drivers (elderly, young, aggressive etc,) to be able to see me as well as for me to see them in traffic with a quick glance.

Instead of turning off DRL, why not upgrade the bulbs to led bulbs. Looks some much cleaner!

Where can we acquire these LED bulbs that would fit into the 9005 socket used for the DRL?

I would like a pair

But even if you can find an LED replacement for your DRL, will it be bright enought to still be used as a regular high beam? Or will you render your high beam useless when you need it?
