Default Custom settings question

Sorry. I’m new to this car and Lexus.

I’ve tried to set the door locking method by doing the procedure in the manual. I’d like the doors to lock at a speed and not when I shift into drive. I can’t seem to get it to work. Is there a trick to it?

Also, can I adjust how long the headlights stay on after turning off the car if the lights are in auto? I know I can lock it and they will go out but I’d like to shorten the time as much as possible. And, does the car have slightly less parasitic draw if it’s locked than unlocked while in the garage? My Acura uses less.

Does your car have Navigation?

Setup Tab on the Nav -> Vehicle -> Vehicle Customization

From what I recall, and I would have to take a look to verify, the auto lock in park should be part of the Door Lock Settings. The headlight timer should also be part of the Light Settings.

Its possible they added those option to the Nav in 2010 because the Navigation system hardware was updated for the mid cycle refresh.

Alternatively you would need Toyota Techstream software with an OBD2 to USB cable. You can usually find kits on Amazon or eBay that include an install CD and cable.

Also, a Bluetooth OBD2 dongle called Carly is capable of doing the same thing but it’s a bit more expensive after the dongle and subscription fee.

Default User manual is wrong?

I went to the dealer today to try and get my doors to lock based on speed and not when putting the car into D. The user manual says it is user configurable and that it is a simple matter of turning the ignition On, moving the gear handle to N and within 10 seconds, pushing the door lock button for 5 seconds. That’s it! Nope! We tried it many times, nope. Then they brought out the Toyota computer, hooked it up and tried. Nope. The computer said it was already configured that way!

Anyway, it seems there is some discrepancy in the way things really work and the way the manual says they work.

You might be able to program this with a Carista Obd2 reader. Check out their website.
