rear strut replacment ?
HI i was wondering if anyone knows the labor time for the rear struts i think i was told once that its more time for some reason to do the rear than it was to do the front.
and its about time to have the rear ones replaced they have about 140k since the rear have been swapped out
the info i am looking for is what will a shop ccharge me for this not how long it would or should take to do it at home but what the book time for this is

thats one thing i hate is that they charge more for the customer paying out of pocket than if the warranty was covering it or a service contract was covering it
you will also knotice that some areas have body shop labor rates that charge 10 to 15 more per hour for customer pay out of pocket then if it was insurance paying for a repair same as health insurance also you have health insurance its alot cheaper than if you don't have health insurance look at a MRI 2000 charged to the insruance company but no insurance you get billed 7k lol
i like to keep things up i know some people say don't fix it or replace it till it breaks but i do travle alot and probalby keep around 250 lbs of lugage in the trunk when i do take road trips wich is around half of the year and i knotice the rear is not as nice as it used to ride i know thats with age and all but its a bit stiff and hard am i thinking about it in the wrong way ? its not leaking and not making noise
Consider a quick strut kit if you replace. Just replacing the struts themselves leaves the strut mounts and springs that will probably need to be replaced later. OEM parts are really expensive too-thousands.
Best to research before proceeding.

Did both front and rear strut replacements with Monroe quick struts on my 2003 Avalon about 1.5 years ago and they were terrible. While the install was easy enough, all of them were noisy, rattles, and clunky. Never could get them to quiet down no matter what we tried. Even a full removal and reinstall didn't do a thing. Not sure who else make's quick struts, but Monroe's are not for me ever again.

From what I’ve read KYB makes the factory OEM parts but if you buy them from an auto parts store there much cheaper/harsher than OEM. Apparently the Lexus OEM ones are made to much nicer softer standards. Quick online search looks like rear shock is $211 and the spring is $110 each online.
If i do change them i will change them with KYB Quick struts can get them on Rock Auto for just over 100 i think they where 114 or 120 each
I wish the fronts where available from KYB for quick struts from our car but they only have the Rear quick struts for our 07-12 ES350
When i replaced mine a few years ago in the front i was a bit short on cash so i wasnt able to price out all the parts using KYB parts so i ended up going with Monroe Quick struts and that was about 90k ago those still seem good at 90k no leaks no noises not even creaking form the mounts or bearing on those but if i still have the car the next time its time to replace them i will probably go with the KYB
i know the KYB aftermarktet is tuned a bit differntly i think i was told they are a bit stiffer then OEM but still they are the manufacturer of the OEM struts for our cars
