Rear Headrest Assy Deterioration
Has anybody experienced their headrest assy slowly separating such that you can see the foam filler from the rear of the car? The area I am describing is where the rear headrest assy (pn 71940a) meets the plastic "half moon" surround. My car is an '02 w saddle interior (1 year out of warrantee). The dealer has never experienced this before and replacements are $600 apeice.
This is our 4th Lexus (1st SC)...not at all what I expected....my 10 year old LX is pristene and it's parked outside all the time!
Thanks very much!

Though it was not covered under my platinum extended warranty, (which paid for itself already) Lexus of Orlando had both rear headrests recovered by their upholstery repair person at no cost to me. They came out perfect. I have developed a very close relationship with my dealer and it pays off.
I would suggest you pursue getting them recovered rather than buy new ones.

I just had both of my rear headrests replaced by Lexus under warranty one in august and one last week for the same reason and my car is a 2003 with black leather. The car goes out of warranty next month so I got it done just in time. They would not cover the wear on the seat armrest or door panel under warranty though they called it normal.

I had the same problem this summer. The headrest is very close to the rear windshield and gets a lot of heat. Looked like the glue holding it toghether gave up. All i did is remove the whole assembly and used some super-glue to put it back as it was! I's not that hard!
P.S I tinted my windows, since than the car is cooler and the leather doesn't get much heat
