Yeah it is cold. I'm in Dallas and the "bad" weather has gone by. I have an interstate battery that came with the car and is holding up well, considering I have a system and all. I plan on upgrading to the optima yellow top. Real good battery. They have one just below this witch is a red top. Optima'sare more costlier but is worth it. If you really don't have anything done to car that requires the extra juice, then a replacement Panasonic would be sufficent or the Enegizer works well too. I've also had no problems with the ones you get from Wal-Mart. I forgot the name of it. But those work well too.
Originally posted by snackypuddin I bought a used 1998 ES300 a couple of months ago. Well, it finally got to freezing in Austin Tuesday and the battery is dead.
It is the original Panasonic that came stock with the water cells. It has lasted the 60 months, and with Austin heat that is a miracle.
Suggestions on getting another battery? Brand?
Duralast or Duralast Gold from Autozone are great batteries...and have been ranked amongst the top in durability and reliability.
Optima batteries are top notch, but do note, you have to rewire the terminals to fit the battery posts. Toyota likes to use reverse polarity batteries with the posts closest to the edge. Optima batteries only have posts located near the middle of the battery.

the reason your battery may have died is a problem with the alternator
not providing enough volts at idle
it tests ok at first but when it heats up and idles it drops to 11vdc
check it out
i have an optima great battery
but the toyota one is also very good plus interstate
