Default Rust on door threshold

I detailed the 350 today and noticed on the plate that has the "LEXUS" name on it, on the driver's threshold, that there are rust spots forming. The plate looks to be either brushed chrome or stainless steel. I'm thinking it's chrome and thus the rust. Or, could be a defective piece of stainless steel. I intend to take it in to the dealer for repair or replacement.

Bob- Sorry to hear. I thought it was either brushed chrome or SS too. Let us know, but I think the dealer should replace it under the rust warranty .

It probably is just iron filings/spots that have gotten embedded in the stainless steel threshhold trim. That trim shouldn't rust, shouldn't be possible.

You may be right if, in fact, the material is stainless. If brushed chrome it most definitely can rust. I hope it's SS.

I had the exact same thing on my es300h 2013 (purchased on 12/1/2012

The dealer cleaned it off with something they had in the back.

I went online and googled "how to clean rust off of brushed chrome". One of the recommendations for removing rust on the brushed chrome is to use oxalic acid. The wife just bought some "Barkeeper's Friend" cleaner. You guessed it: It contains oxalic acid in the form of a soft cleanser. I used a damp soft cotton cloth and the cleanser which removed all of the rust in about 3 minutes. Should be rubbed in the direction of the grain to prevent scratching. After, I applied pure Carnauba wax as a protectorant. Looks beautiful... Hope no one else needs it...
