Does anyone know if the p0401 egr insufficent flow, will pull timing or run in safe mode?

Negative to both. It's strictly an emissions thing.

I deleted egr valve, un hooked the vsv connection and now it says p0401. It's a 1994 es300

The EGR valve is for Exhaust Gas Recirculation. All it does is route a small amount of exhaust gases back into the intake chamber to reduce combustion temperature. If it sticks open it can cause driveability issues but what typically happens is they clog up like yours seems to have and so they don't work. Won't cause any issues that way. What makes you think you are in safe mode? That is the only code you have?

yea that is only code i have, i deleted it because i broke a tooth pick in one of the vaccumm ports cleaning it. i was reading someone else saying that it might retard the timing cause i put a plate over it.

I had p 0401 so I was cleaning egr valve and the vacuum ports located on the throttle body when I broke a tooth pick in one of the ports on throttle body that feed vacumm to the egr , so then I just blocked the egr off. I just didn't know if it would make the car run bad, another question do you the bolt for the transmission the size of it to dump and refill don't know size of the trans bolt.
