Angry New 2013 300h feedback

Have put about 800 miles on this new car.

1. The mileage I am getting is 32!. No where close to 40.

2. The Enform lexus Apps does play music from Pandora but the reception (sound quality) is not good. Playing it directly from the Phone via USB or Bluetooth is lot better!

3. AM Radio reception is very weak.

I hope these are not real issues and can be fixed on my car. Any one else having similar issues?

I don't get 40mpg either. Get average abount 35/36 mpg. Have to drive real easy on gas to get 40.

1. Thats a hybrid thing. You have to drive VERY carefully to get the maximum EPA rating. It will improve as time goes on and the car gets broken in also. Even 32 though is a big improvement over the gas car.

2. The quality of the audio streaming has everything to do with the quality of your data connection on your smartphone. I notice that sound quality is MUCH better in my GS when my iPhone has 4G LTE than when it slips to 3G.

3. AM reception is very weak in most new cars

"Have to drive real easy on gas to get 40"

"You have to drive VERY carefully to get the maximum EPA rating"

Neither are true. You have to drive a hybrid efficiently to get higher FE. Toyota hybrids all get their worst FE while accelerating with the gas engine on.

As far as AM reception, have your dealer check that for you.

I've got just under 600 miles on my 300h and I'm noticing my gas mileage dipping slightly as I drive a little more on the Hwy (just under 36mpg). I notice it's higher if i'm doing more city driving.

Enform Lexus app doesn't seem to work with my Iphone 5.

And that seems to make perfect sense. If you look at the EPA ratings, the 300h is rated 40 city/38 highway. City driving renders itself quite well for regenerative breaking to recharge the hybrid batteries so that you have to depend just a bit less on the gas engine and eek out the extra few MPG.

Thanks for all the responses.

Here's what I was told by the Service:

1. I need to drive in ECO mode as much as possible and not go over 65! to get the listed mileage.

2. This is how Enform Apps works as of now. Try iHeartRadio, its reception would be better than Pandora.

3. AM reception will be weak as this car does not have an Antenna like old cars!

Hope this helps!

1. "I need to drive in ECO mode" Not necessarily true but good general advise that should give you good FE if you are new to hybrids.

3. My AM reception is excellent and strong. I use AM daily and listen to a station that is a bit on the weak side in my area and it actually comes in great in the 300h, better than other vehicles I have owned in the past.

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Atkinson_cycle

There's more to a hybrid than mpg; the recent models couple an old invention called the Atkinson engine with electric motors. This combination usually meets or exceeds mpg of economical vehicles - but also improves on cleaner emissions. The Atkinson engine is not as powerful as a conventional gas engine, but it is a very good complement with an electric assist for cleaner burning vehicles.
