Ok so every-time put gas in my car the fuel guage doesn't go all the away up right away after a while it will go to the correct position but after that it will go down and then come up again. Also another thing at times the fuel light will come on and then go off. Is it suppose to stay on? Could you guys help me out and tell me whats wrong Thanks!

Ok so the car keeps cutting off more than ever i have to keep restart it i did some research and i found out the reason why fuel guage keeps fluctuating is because my fuel pump is broke and needs to be fix and that is also leading the car to continue to cut off. Can anyone please confirm this to be correct.

 

My gas needle takes a minute to reach the full level after a fill-up. I don't know if that's normal, but it does work just fine. The gas light goes on and off depending on the level of the car. It's a mechanical float, so the light can get brighter or dimmer depending on its position.

 

Your fuel pump has nothing to do with your fuel gauge. I would also be a bit suspicios of an intermittent fuel pump diagnosis. Get another opinion.

Are you sure that your fuel gauge suddenly indicates a lower amount? Apart from that anomality, it sound like your fuel gauge is working normally.

ya i too sometime have that..i think the mechanic said something to do with float (maybe)..but then he said he will have look inside and disassemble the tank and connections..i said naw right away..
altho this only happens once in a blue moon. so i am not worried

 

Yes i'm sure it takes a while to reach its normal but after while it goes down and i know that isn't normal. It continues to go up and down.

 

In that case, it could be one of several things, such as:

1) Defective or Dirty Sending Unit.
2) Defective Fuel Gauge.
3) Defective or Loose wiring including grounds.
4) Defective Fuel Tank, (loose internal buffles, allowing the fuel to splash around). In that case, it should not happened if you are not moving.
5) Dented Fuel Tank

Unless you can live with the problem, you will need to have someone diagnose and pinpoint the cause. It could be any of the above.

If its intermittent, I would wait until it gets worse. It will than be much easier and much less expensive to diagnose and repair.

Sounds like a bad float... to fix the problem you would need to buy a whole new fuel pump, cuz they dont sale just one part.
