..to remove the heat shield under the fuel tank, in order to remove the rear sway bar? I got the links and brackets off the bar, but I just can't figure out how to wiggle the damn thing out. I would cut it, but I need to know how to put the new one in(when I get it).

The service manual states that the heat shield needs to go, but I'm hesitanting to put a wrench on those old crusty bolts. I fear that they'll snap and then I'll have two problems to deal with.

 

I was able to install a TRD RSB on my avy with only removing the links and bushing brackets. I can't really explain how to take it out but, once you look at how it is installed closely it's not difficult. I think I was able to get out by working it out the left of car.

 

Heat shield is out. Still struggling.

are u doing it on a hoist or doing it jacked up on a stand?

 

It's on two jack stands. I got it out, don't know how but I got it out! Now if only I can remember the reversal of this procedure, when the new one gets here. Took a few pictures just in case.

 

oh man, doing it with the car on hoist is like 15 minutes.
i never even bothered doing it on jack stands cuz it's turns an easy job into a PITA

 

I wish I had that luxury, but I have to work with what I have. It's a learning experience either way, so the next time should go a lot smoother.

 

yea, the learning experience should be that next time you bring the car on a hoist and i wouldn't call that a luxury lol

 

I gave it a shot saturday. i studied every possible aspect for 20 minutes to get that bar out and realized i dont have enough room on the jack or even on stands. a LIFT is gonna help a lot.

 

I don't know how it is in Ontario, but around here, the only place you would find a lift is at a shop. Meaning that you can't just rent a car lift to do everything yourself, you will have to pay a mechanic to do it for you.


It took me hours but I got it out. You need to pull it towards the driver's door, in front of and underneath the trailing arm.
