Default Climate Control Bulb Help

I'm new here and have seen some great how to's. I have a 96 es300. I was wondering if someone has changed the climate control bulbs with leds instead.
I tried searching for a how to, but didn't find much. I read some the bulbs are 8 volts, so I was wondering if I put a resistor with an led would it work correctly?, or maybe solder 3 led's in series together to have a little over 9 volts. Any help would be great. Thanks.

I finally got around to making some led strips to replace the stock bulbs, so here's what I did to make them, and the final outcome of out. Also here's a few more pic's of a few other mods I did.

wait a minute... you simply made a board to hold 3 leds and then swapped the oems out on the climate?

looking good so far, i made a board with 6 for the dome light and some with 4 each for the door courtesy lights.

thanks for sharing!

it was that simple after trying different types of leds and patterns lol, I find using 5mm flat top leds worked best for me, but the housing between the display screen and leds needed to be modified as well. Thanks, I plan on changing the dome and courtesy lights next, thanks for info for what you did. Now I just need to figure out how to access the bulb for the key ignition, lol.
