Default Amp Location

Hey I just installed an aftermarket Head Unit, and as great as it looks and sounds, I have the infamous engine whine problem.

I've got it hooked up via a metra wiring kit. Instead of trying to solve the problem manually, I'm just gonna buy a new amp.

What's the easiest place to put the amp, for the least wiring possible?

my new amp is in my trunk, and the old amp, just move the passenger seat forward and you can unbolt it from the floor

LOL J2

well the reason I ask is because I'd like to just throw a new amp exactly where the old one is and switch all the wires that are going into the old one into the new one... is this possible? It just seems like the easiest way to get it done.

Thumbs up very good idea.

it's kool that you want to utiliza the wires already run through your car. don't worry cause once you start splicing, you'll see they're very good quality high gauge copper wires. when i started splicing mine, i was like damn...these are for a stock stereo?! but ya, koo. saves you from running whole new speaker lines.
>caution< amps get hot. make sure you'll get one with a good heatsink/fan. under a seat isn't the best place you could put an amp.
and also, under the seat isn't very big.

it's a good idea that you wanna utilize those wires, but you should still mount a 4 channel amp in your trunk, but splice the wires from under the seat to the trunk. you feel me?

Wait ok number 1, why would I want it in the trunk instead of under the seat?

Number two where would be the easiest way to run it to the trunk? like what path?

in the trunk, your amp would be able to cool off easier, you don't want to block an amp in, although if i could, i would put my PS2 under the passenger seat, cause im getting a video screen installed today in my passenger visor

(1) you don't want to mount an amp under you passanger seat cause it's too small under there. take a look, you'll know what i mean.

(2) easiest way to run wires from under the seat to the trunk is by taking off the carpet trim and laying it there, then under the rear seat and up through the back.

as for erics comment....sorry dood, you can't totally get rid of the stock amp if you're still using the stock head unit. think of it as a single stock radio. both those units, the amp and head unit complete each other. (jerry mcguire)
