Default 1994 ES300 does not start after engine cools

To start with my Lexus has 344,212 miles on it. It still runs great when it runs. My Lexus does not want to start when the engine is cold. I can put in the sun or some place heated and it will start but before you can drive it you have to let the engine warm up. It sputters and dies if you try to give it gas before the engine warms up. I have the local Toyota dealer look at it and they ere afraid to work on it because of the miles. The check code said it as the igniter I replaced that which of course did not help. I know it is a sensor causing my problem I have no ideal which one. Once the engine warms up the Lexus will start every time until the engine cools completely. Help

I will also add that there is gas smell from the tail pipe when it does not start.

It sounds like a cold start injector if these even have one and did you replace the ignitor with a used one? If so then I woud still look there.

Another possibility is the ECM coolant temp sensor. Be aware that the ECM uses a different sensor than the dash gauge.

I replaced the coolant temp sensor with no luck. I did more digging and pulled a plug left it hooked up turned over the engine and no spark when the engine is cold. What could this be?

The ignitor can be intermitent, like any other electic component. But to have two ignitors with the same symptoms is very unlikely. Once you swapped the ignitor and cleared the error, did the code come back? If not I would not pursue the ignitor any further.

The cold start injector, or the ECM coolant temp sensor are both much more likely.

YOur fuel pressure regulator might be bad, my uncle has a 94 and he had the same problem after the engine was cold it would start and take a while before it turn over and he found out it was that.
