Default 2007 ES350 windshield keeps cracking

I've had my car less than two years and have had to replace the windshield FOUR times - rain sensing windshields run at $800!!!!! I keep getting stone chips and then the whole windshield cracks! Last time, the windshield cracked right in front of my eyes while the guy was trying to repair the stone chip! Anybody have the same problem??????

My windshield took a small stone at low speed (around 35-30mph) which caused a small crack. Car was only 2 weeks old ! Don't know where the $800 came from as the ES350 windshield is more like $1300. The old Es330 windshields were around 750.
Chalk it up to the sound deadening "low durometer" glass. In English, that means soft !
In order for the windshields to be quieter, they are made softer than in the old days.
Many articles on the web about these sound deadening windshields.
Luckily, my dealer offered to split it with me as my in-laws and I had bought 5 cars from the dealer over the years.

Just replaced my second one last week. First one was cracked by the dealer when attempting to correct a rattle. Second one was a stone hitting the windshield. Started cracking almost immediately. Price was around $650. Think this was price for State Farm. I only paid my $250 deductible.

Well, the glass isn't soft, I think the new windshields might simply have more layers of glass, laminated together with PVB, which means that each layer of glass is thinner and easier to crack. However the overall strength of the windshield is increased because there are more PVB layers. Otherwise, its easier to crack the glass, but much harder to punch through it. And of course, PVB has excellent sound deadening qualities.

Don't you all have comprehensive insurance? This isn't exactly an old el cheapo car. Some states require insurance compaines to cover the entire cost of a windshield replacement for safety. Check with your state or insurance. You may not need to pay any money.

While this is unfortunate, your insurance, if you have full coverage, should pick up the cost minus deductable. As mentioned in some States, there is no out of pocket expense. Cost of glass should be right around 1100.00 +
