Window switch/button
So, my passenger window won't work anymore. It was being sluggish for a while and now it really won't do anything. The driver's side control for the passenger window will not lower it, but will put it up. I'm trying to figure out if it is the switch, motor, regulator, etc. Any ideas? I'm going to take it into the shop if I can't figure it out...
I did a search using "Power" "Window" "Switch" and found the following helpful post from one of our long-time favorite members/mods:
I thought you in particular might like those instructions, since you seem to be a do-it-yourself kinda gal.
The search also brought up this thread. I think you might be on the same track as this guy - eventual motor replacement. I would, myself, LOVE to know how the Lexus techs determine which part in the chain is out. Do they replace each part until it's obvious what went out? Are they putting a piece of equipment that reads voltage from the various components?
We've got some veteran shadetree mechs in here and even a few ASEs. Maybe they'll shed some light on this for us.
Check out this guy's instructional web page on how to remove the door panel in a '96 ES. It should help you remove the master window switch assembly.

Thanks a bunch! I did try to search for another thread on here...but must not have entered the correct words.
I think this might be over my head (on our other cars - Volvo/Saturn, I can pretty much do anything under the hood, but I'm scared to mess with eletrical stuff inside) .
I have a guy in town that works exclusively on Lexus/Toyota (and is the son-in-law of one of my co-workers, so is always very kind/fair). He is great...so I've left him a message and most likely will take it in to him. He lets me watch and I'll ask how they determine...and let you know =)
He doesn't replace parts to see which one it is...I had another problem with the car and he wouldn't do that (saying it was very expensive to start a process-of-elimination technique like that). So, will let you know! I'm going to try to get it in the shop on Friday (pay day...hah).
Thanks for your input!!! =)
(P.S. - besides liking everything to work in the car, I'm a smoker and that just won't fly to have a window stuck when my hubby drives!). I'll have to sit in the back =)

Yea its straight-forward and quicker than doing the "automotive baseball" routine and throwing parts at it. I had to replace my master switch not too long after I got my car, but it was pretty obvious as the drivers switch had to be reefed up with both hands to put the window up and auto down didnt work anymore. I think i got it off that auction site pretty cheap. Jenn does the passenger switch operate the window at all?
