Default 1992-1993 Non-Interference Engines?

Just curious of the 1992-1993's are non-interference engines. If the timing belt breaks are the valves getting bent and etc? Or am I safe if I don't try to keep cranking it, etc. Thanks

Nope, they are interference motors. And if your chain breaks, it's usually not while you are cranking the car (which would do enough damage) but while motor is running (not for long, though). Clank, whang, various other metallic crunching sounds to accompany the sound of several thousand dollars winging their way from you pocket. Sorry, but ya oughta change the belt.

Nope, they are non interference engines. Only the engines with the "GE" design are interference design.

Also 2VZ-FE (ES250), 3VZ-FE (1992-1993) and 1MZ-FE (1994 to current) use a timing belt, not chain. Timing chains are designed for the life of the engine. If that unfortunately breaks.....then you have one nice bill ahead.

2JZ-GE & 1UZ/2UZ-FE use belts also.

3s-gte uses belt too.. i just know that cause my weekend car is an mr2.. thats the only reason I was curious cause i know in the mr2 world doing the timing belt on time is stressed big time. So i figured it would be the same with lexus.. but then again, I wasn't sure how much lexus/toyota engines shared in common, although I assumed it was quite significant.

The VZ series engine:
2VZ-FE (1988.5 to 1991 Camry, 1990 to 1991 ES250)
3VZ-FE (1992-1993 Camry, 1992-1993 ES300)
5VZ-FE (4Runner, around 1994, Tacoma, T100, Tundra)

MZ series:
1MZ-FE (Camry, Avalon, ES300, Highlander, RX300, Solara, Sienna; some with VVT-i)

JZ series:
2JZ-GE (GS300, Supra, IS300)

These are the ones I know off the top of my head.

I bow to VZV21's superior knowledge. Obviously I am losing memory.......but then, I'm an old guy. Hide my own Easter eggs and I can wrap my own Christmas presents and still be surprised on Christmas morning.

Hey Little Rock......nice town. Definitely no shortage of bars on the riverfront. I was around there a while for when Bob Dylan rolled around (well it was really for the NDIA Small Arms conference). NIce to know that the the folks at Camp Robinson (or was it fort) has some of the best rifleman in the business.

VZ, glad you enjoyed yourself. Riverfront/downtown definitely looking up. And it is Camp Robinson; may be some confusion because we also have Fort Roots (which is also on Natl Historic Register) over there. Of course, back in the 60s we were set to bomb 'em back to the Stone Age when the AF base at Jacksonville was SAC and home to most of the B52s in the U.S.
