Hello, I need some advice. My car is running very hot but when I'm in the highway and a steady speed, the gauge stays in the middle. When I'm at a stop light or whatever, the temperature gauge goes up tot he read. The coolant reservoir is boiling over. I changed the thermostat and it still does the same thing. I then changed the water pump and it does the same thing. I did notice that the fan does not turn fast enough to cool the engine, it turns slow. What should I do now? Change the radiator and the fan?

 

Must be your fan relay to the high speed setting. Most radiator fans have a low and high speed setting. Your fan is obviously not cooling, hence the overheating at stop or low speed driving. Good lord why did you replace the waterpump before checking the radiator and fan? That is a big job! Good luck to you.

 

So, do I replace the fan? I mean, I was trying to narrow down the problem.

 

Search.
Jump OP1 and E1 in the diagnostic port with the engine running & if the fan goes to hurricane speed. It's fine. If not, the connector for it on the pwoersteering pump is unplugged. (Usually by the last mechanic that changed the belts.)

Burp the system to make sure it's full.
Pass that, pressure caps, water pump(coolant pressure), radiator check compression (head gasket).

 

Radiator shop for a flow test of the radiator. Inspect the pressure cap for cracks in the seals.

I have the same problem and I also replaced the water pump and thermostat, i really don't know what else I have to do.

 

I be damn. It must be a florida thing, because I'm having the same exact problem and I just replaced water pump, radiator, thermostat, and caps, but still over heating.

 

o ...same things happen here but i am in NY .. mine is a 92 and get overheat in the winter too when its mad cold out there . even worst when summer start to come like 2 months ago . . i posted before but no one answer my question. ... :
ok anyway wut i did is i checked my fan works fines and my thermostat has changed already when i got the car. so i flushed the radiator and fill up the coolant .also replace both radiator cap ...so far for 2 months my car dun overheat no more even though i turn on my AC and keep driving like and hour and got stuck in triffic or wuteve r
* i fill up a lot of coolant from the radiator cap near the engine * and i check it all da time now my car dun overheat no more !
