Default Replace breaks @ 17 K ????

I just bought a Lexus and hte dealer is saying htat I need to replace the breaks both front and back in it.

The ES 330 has only 17000 miles in it. Is it even possible for breaks to be eroded for a lexus that has so few miles in it? Am I being taken for a ride?

Thanks

Cool

Currently, there are no OEM brake problems. (Yes we all know that batch of 95-97 Camry platform pads were loud, possibly gouged rotors & had fast wear rates)
That means brake wear rate is 100% driver braking habits, so long as there is no underlying issue.

Why don't you look at the pads & see?
I can tell from your other post you're not a do your own maintenece yourself kind of guy - which is fine. But unless you look yourself, you're never gonna know!

Thanks for a quick response!

Yeah - I need to start doing my own stuff...I am doing too many things right now (full time work and full time school ) so dont get much time to learn things...but I plan to do that..

I could hear a noice everytime I was releasing the breaks after stopping completely and so I brought this up with the dealer -

The cost mentioned by hte dealer was $277 for just for replacing the front pads!....that is outrageous...Is there any other reliable service stores I can take to? Are pepboys good?

Thanks

This is the very first time that I heard of brake pads on a 330ES , especially rear pads needing replacement at such a low mileage, unless the former owner really beat the hell out of this car!
Was this a certified used car, and did you buy it from a Lexus dealer? Strange, very strange indeed.

Sree- if it is true that your brakes needs change, I would suggest you get outside quote since it will be a lot cheaper. Personally I have had a couple of repairs done on Camry with Pep Boys and they did a excellent job. Recently they replaced the front 2 struts on the camry and accidently pulled the ABS sensor wire and dragged it together. The result of this made the ABS light on my dash not to go off. Pep Boys replaced the item which costs them $265.00 from the toyota dealer. I would recommend them well not only for this but for any of their work.. I am not sure if someone else had some bad experience with them... but not me. Also check Midas, Mr.Tire, Tuffy ... these guys does Brakes as well and I am sure it will be far cheaper than quoted by the Dlr ..

This would help people like us who do not have the time and tools to get things done by ourselves

Good Luck

you can get a second opinion/price quote at your local Toyota dealership.
