Default when did you replace your front OEM brake pads?

sorry if this was posted before, but i did search.. how long did your front brake pads last? i'm almost @ 30k miles, normal driving, and my brake feels funny.. my service rep told me it's time to replace front pads and resurface rotors, but didn't believe him. maybe he was right? just trying to get a rough idea.. thx.

The first time, about 24k miles, with somewhat aggressive driving. The pads were replaced under the dust TSB. The second time I replaced the pads was about 33k miles later when the front rotors needed to be replaced due to being warped. The pads had about 50% life left in them when they were replaced.

30k miles is more than plenty for these cars. Go ahead and change them. If you're in warranty, see if you can get the free low-dust replacements (complain about the brake dust). If you're not in warranty, check the IS350 brake pad replacement thread for a good DIY. Should cost around $50 for a set of good ceramic front pads.

i'm still under warranty, but would worn out brake pads still covered under TSIB? i guess it won't hurt to ask.. i do all the brake jobs myself, but just didn't think it will be this soon.

Not really. You got to remember this is a performance sports sedan. The brakes are designed to provide rapid deceleration without nose dive. So many people drive this car more aggressively. At 12,000 miles my pad lifespan was consistent with that of my previous cars.

Clearly you have driven very carefully to get 30'000 miles out of them.

If you had low performance long life brakes like the ES350, you might even get 60,000 miles or more. My mothers ES350 has 90-95% pad remaining at 16,000 miles.

At 28,000 we had to not only change the brake pads, but also the rotors. He told me it was pretty common, but I think they just wanted to get the extra money out of me. I wish i had known about the brake dust replacement.

In the process of doing mine now. Bought the car used so I don't know if they were done before, but I have about 30K on the car now. Probably done once before. My 350 is at the dealer finally getting the valve springs replaced in addition to the water pump leak I have. I told them my brakes were acting up (hoping to get them replaced for free) and they said I need new ones. Well I had already anticipated getting them done anyways, which I would have done myself. I was in the process of buying the parts on Sewell's site, when I asked the service adviser if they would match the prices. I faxed the prices and they did! They even offered to cut the labor on the install down. Unfortunately I will be doing the work myself, but a nice gesture otherwise. I will be replacing my brakes with OEM rotors and low dust pads. Not into getting anything better, not knowing how much longer I will have this car...

Replaced them twice under warranty. First time was after only 4000 miles, 2nd time was at 18k miles along with new rotors!

No more squeals since.

Wow rider, that's quick especially for the rear's. Do you track the car?

Anyway, our 450h had the low dust pads put on at 12,000 miles and they're still on today @ 45,000. Our 2007 IS350 had the low dust pads put on @ around 15,000 miles and they lasted until we traded the car at 84,000. We did do the rear's around 60,000 though.

The IS-F is a different animal though, although I'm at 20k on the current set (non-OEM).

2006 GS300 AWD: front and rear at 55k.

You are lucky.
Here, first time around 12K miles (TSB excessive dust). Second time around 36K miles (TSB squealing noise, new pads & rotors). Squealing noise came back a year later, 48K. But only when first pulling out of the garage.
Now at 60K, the pads still have 8mm left. Just have to live with it until the next brake job.
