Angry GrrRR!

I was driving home from my girlfriends the other night, and about had a heart attack...

The green backlight to the stereo console on my '97 ES has gone out. Well, all except two buttons are out. The screen that tells the disc playing etc still works, however the rest of the console has gone out.

What do I do? Is there a part to order? How hard is it to fix?

Being a perfectionist...this is annoying the he// out of me!

Do a search on radio/climate light bulbs or lighting and you'll find info on this subject. Seems to be a very popular topic.

I had this problem a long while ago with the A/C console unit on my '01 ES, and I fixed it myself by replacing the affected bulbs. Here's my thread detailing this fix:

https://www.clublexus.com/forums/sho...=climate+bulbs

As you can see, the backlighting bulbs should be the same for both the stereo and A/C console units. Hope this helps out

I took mine apart last fall to replace the ugly green lighting with blue leds and found that although the climate control bulbs were easy to replace, the ones in the stereo were not. They are soldered (surface mount, btw) onto the circuit board. So therefore I decided to wait until I ordered some surface mount resistors to do the radio lighting swap. I think that you might be able to fix it yourself, as long as you have some soldering skills and a lot of patience!

my stereo lcd backlight went out, and from the previous statement it doesnt seem like a DIY if you have no soldering skills. Can anybody confirm this or does the bulbs in the stereo lcd pop in and out.

Yea, it sucks. Now the backlight to the P R N D, etc is out. Of course, I've used various items...cell phone, pda and even my iPod to gently beat on it. Some times it even comes back on! How do you fix that anyways...?

In that case, the bulb for the shifter plate could be dead. You'll have to pry out the wood trim surrounding the shifter plate, and remove the actual plate to reveal the bulb. It's the same bulb as from the climate control unit, so you can safely unscrew the bulb from its holder and replace it.
