Hey guys everytime I drive I hear a drone sound when car reachs higher rpms after every shift and it almost sounds like exhaust drone. It's really noticable after pulling away from a light. Also you can almost feel that drone on the gas pedal it sounds like crap and makes the driving feel not smooth. What do you guys think it could be before I take it to the shop
Exhaust drone generally comes out of the resonator, big long muffler-like object just after the catalytic converter. You might have a leak somewhere done there. Some of these drones are actually quite audible to vehicle occupants whereas they are no so much to the casual observer outside the vehicle, given the way sound vibration can affect the rest of the vehicle. Not saying it's this, but that could be a possibility.
Im going to take a look underneath and takes pictures of my whole exhaust and post it on here.
Where the leaks show up are normally just in front of the cat or between the cat and the muffler. Occasionally a leak will develop on an accordion like joint just below the engine itself. This is a big problem with the earlier versions of the RX300 which uses a similar engine to your ES.
One other area where the leaks can pop up is on the exhaust manifold itself. It can be enough that it doesn't pop a cell, but can alter the tone of the exhaust.
Ideally, I'd start up the vehicle in Park and take a look for any hiss underneath or on the manifold.
Tell me if you see anything, I put my hand under the cat and where the flex pipe bends and I didnt feel anything blowing or a hiss, so have no idea where that drone is coming from.
I have the same problem its about 2' from the muffler. I just gonna replace it with a solara cat back in the spring. From what I take due to the age of our cars its a common problem.
