Default Remote Start

Ive been interested in remote starters lately but I dont want to replace the whole OEM alarm system. I had an aftermarket remote start in my 2000 Sable and to make it start, you pressed the lock button 3 times. With only one button on the remote (92 es with the remote key) there is no designated lock button...

Im a cheap bastard - anyone know of a good but cheap aftermarket remote start? Wal-Mart sells them, but its also the installation that boggles my mind- which makes me a cheap and lazy bastard. Ease of installation and cost are the most important factors that determine what I get.

Thanks in advance!

I just asked a pretty similar question the other day... no responses yet though. I'd say in your case probably not. Unless you can find a way to program it to start after holding the button then I'd probably say you might unfortunately end up with another remote.

Here's my thread. Maybe you can call some local install shops and ask about this.

I'm wondering about this too. I'd like a remote start on my car but I don't want a seperate keyfob for it.

Thumbs down Remote start

With all the talk about remote start, I thought everyone might find this interesting. I live in Louisville, KY and it’s illegal here to leave a car running unattended; the police will issue citations for this. The reason is the large number of cars stolen with their engines already running. I would never leave a car idling to warm it up anyway. This causes increased engine wear due the low oil pressure while idling, the poorer lubrication with cold oil, and the fact that you’re running the engine longer. This also wastes gas and increases exhaust emissions. The best way to warm up an engine is by driving. Come on, isn’t anyone green?

I've had a remote start installed on my es 300. i think it is a valet kit, $49 + $100 installation from circuit city. + $20 for door locks + [$35 for trunk opener] did not get. 5 hrs installation which i dont' think is diy-able. This was a cool feature, but in sd....you don't need it so its on the extra key

I install the Crimestopper models and these have range of 2000 feet. Your key fob stays in your pocket, not hidden in the car.

My whole thing is I really don't want a separate remote... I really wish there was a way around that.

Their website says its developed for the SC430. Wonder if it'll work on a ES300 ?

That's my question as well, because I know that my gen ES300 (00-01) uses somewhat of a different keyless system than the rest of the Lexus's do. I'm gonna email Luxurymotorworks and see what they say.

As far as ESpair said, I agree almost the whole way through, minus the theft thing. I agree with that if I were to go walk outside and start the car with the key, but on most remote start systems, the brake acts as a kill switch, which you need to use to shift out of park.

Default *** Update ***

Alright guys, I got a response from Luxury Motor Works on the ES, and the old keys as well:

Yes the remote start will work on the older Lexus. As for the 1 button factory key it will work, but you’ll have to hit lock, unlock, lock, and unlock again to have it remotely start. With the newer factory keys you’ll only have to hit unlock twice and lock once. Unfortunately I don’t have installation instruction for the 97-01 ES300 right now. I do have basics instruction and may help you. If you do install it and do need tech support feel free to contact us Mon-Fri 8am-6pm for any help.

That second part was me asking about my specific vehicle, but it works with the older one button keys
