Default Minor accident

Unfortunately, I was recently involved in a minor accident. I was looking to make a right turn at an intersection. There was a car in front of me at a stop sign. The car in front of me had to wait for pedestrians to cross the street. Hence, I waited as well behind him. A cab tried to pass me on my left heading the same direction I was facing. To my suprise and disgust, he clipped my rear quarter panel in the process. He stopped at the stop sign and got out of his car. He took a look at my rear quarter panel and tried to convince me that there was no damage which was completely false. He scratched the quarter panel and lower bumper. His paint even rubeed off on my car. No dents, just scratches. I told him I was going to call the cops and he tried to talk me out of it. He said "your wasting your time". Once I started dialing he proceeded to tell me that I hit him. This really infuriated me. He started lying about what actually happened. The cops came, took our stories and filed an accident report without assessing fault. I asked why they didn't assess fault. They replied it was because we didn't have any witnesses.

I ended up filing a claim with his insurance company. I have two estimates of $500 and $640. The scratches are fairly minor. However, they can't be buffed out. We'll see what happens.

It sucks to be in an accident, whether or not it's your fault. Going through insurance and adjustments afterwards is the worst part which takes up a helluva lot of time and your convenience. Hope you persevere and that you get the cab company's insurance to pay for your damages.

Yeah, he was dishonest. However, I'm sure that anyone who drives for a living knows exactly what to do and say after an accident that was their fault. I'm sure they school each other on it. I'm waiting to see how this plays out. Nothing is really going in my favor. He lied about what happened and the cop didn't assess fault. The scratches are minor, but it still is a pricey repair because it involves painting.

I'm not going to file a claim with my insurance. It's not worth repairing if the deductible has to come out of my pocket.

Sorry to hear about the accident, I was in one about a month ago - also not my fault. Good luck with the repairs!
