How do you set up / activate the text message notification and display feature? I have an iphone 5 with verizon and everytime I receive a text message the system does nothing.

on your iPhone open your settings > bluetooth > blue info dot on car multi-media > switch show notifications to "on"

I also have an iPhone 5 with Verizon and a 2012 CT. I went to my Bluetooth settings on the phone and there is no "show notifications" . Only "Sync Contacts" and Group settings.

A notification prompt appears on the Nav display asking whether the system should read or ignore your message. If you select read, music/radio is paused/muted and the system reads the text message or email aloud. It's still marked as "unread" on your phone, even after reviewing the message through the vehicle.

It's a great feature! I'm not sure about the 2011, but perhaps there's a firmware upgrade for the GUI that provides this functionality for older models? This works in my 2013; I can provide the firmware version later today.

Correct, it is only 2013+ models with 2013 or 2014 navigation that can do text.

alpha is correct. As long as the phone screen is off, a prompt will appear on the navi that asks if you want to Read, Ignore or Call back.

A good number of Android phones will allow to reply, but iPhone currently (or rather Apple OS) does not allow to reply back, just recieve

I also noticed this; it's kind of a bummer. I wonder if Lexus will patch this eventually, and if they do, what the process will be for upgrading the firmware.
