Default iPhone Phone Book Sync

Has anyone successfully uploaded their iPhone phonebook via bluetooth? According to Apple the iPhone Phone Book Access Profile (PBAP) supports this process.

I am struggling with it. I must be missing something on the phone side of things?

2012 with NAV. It synced fine with both my 4s and my wife's 4. Both are On AT&T phone software 5.1.1

I have over 500 contacts in my iPhone from old work contacts etc. When completed the sync the car displayed 500 remaining of 1000 available entries.

I then brought up phone book, selected ALL, then deselected ones I wanted to remain in the car phonebook and clicked Delete. This left the 50 or so contacts in the car phone book.

When I connected my wife's phone her 400 plus contacts were in the car list. I did the same delete process and left the 40 or so she either dials or receives calls from.

Voice recognition works pretty good. I hit the steering wheel talk button and say "call John Doe's cell phone" and up comes John Doe's name and number. Then I hit off hook button and it dials.

JR.

JR,

I didn't get nav so I don't have the same functionality that you do. Using voice commands I can get the system to the point that it says "searching". It will continue to search adnausium until I cancel. So there is something I am missing that is not allowing my phone to communicate with the car. I am running V 5.1.1 as well.

I spent 20 minutes in the car trying to figure it out today with no love.

This is the problem: Even though you have the best phone for a Lexus, your software does not match up for phonebook file transfer. Check lexus.com/bluetooth to see compatibility. Also, call your local Lexus dealer and ask for their Vehicle Technology Specialist. He/She will have the answer. Also, try turning your phone off and the car off before you transfer contacts. Sometimes it makes a difference. There are apps in the app store, at least for droids which have a bluetooth file transfer. IDK if it works, but it may be something to try.

Thumbs down

I have almost 1900 contacts in my iPhone. The transfer quits after 1000 but I do not have control over which 1000 contacts it grabs. I suspect it takes the first 1000 you loaded into the phone because it's not doing it in alpa order. This is truly irritating in a world where memory is cheap. Why not make it capable of handling 5000 or more.

Per http://www.lexus.com/bluetooth/

I don't know how you would configure the iPhone to send a single contact??

Transfer single number phonebook entries to the handsfree system
Handset reconnects automatically when the vehicle is started
Switch from handsfree mode to private mode using the phone's keypad or menu
Switch from private mode to handsfree mode using the phone's keypad or menu
Handsfree system displays incoming caller identification
Handsfree system displays the cellular network signal strength

As I mentioned earler I have about 1900 contacts of which about half get transfered to the car. I believe I may have found an answer and I'll be testing it tonite. The iPhone doesn't recognize Outlook categories but it does recognize Outlook folders as Groups. If you create, say a new folder under Contacts called Personal, and move all your personal contacts into that folder then "Personal" shows up as a Group on the iPhone and you can select (or deselect) that group to be transfered to the car. The only down side I've seen is that if you have custom ring tones on your phone contacts those are lost when you move the contact. I'll let you know tomorrow if it works!

Dang it!! The contact folders show up in the iPhone as contact groups but the groups do not show up as selectable options on the BT sync config screen. I can still only select None or All. :-(

Unhappy iPhone 4S mostly works

FLYCT, I'm one of those guys who pokes and prods until I have to give up...then when all other avenues have been exhausted, look at the manual. I checked out the Lexus BT link you provided below and it was pretty informative regarding the specifics of my iPhone 4S. I have NAV/Enform/Apps. Alas, it says:
  1. Image transfer is not supported (I assume this means contact photo)
  2. Phone book transfer from phone to vehicle (PBAP) is supposedly not supported, although it does transfer 1000 contacts
  3. DTMF tones aren't transfered
  4. and some other stuff I don't think I'm interested in

Well, phooey! But thanks for the the very informative link!

As I indicated in another post the Sales Tech Rep at the dealer said a lot of people have been complaining about the [mis]handling of contacts. One thing they are (hopefully) going to do is increase the storage from 1000 to 3000 contacts. And beware that each contact can hold only 3 phone numbers (no addresses or any other info). So when you have more than 3 numbers it creates a duplicate contact with the next 3 numbers and so on.

This is the guy I'm talking to and he doesn't know as much about the system changes in the 2013 model as I do now. They are selling every 2013 Rx in their allotment before they hit the lot so he hasn't actually had one to play with. He has asked me to keep him updated on this and other issues. I'm sure they will catch up in a month or 3. I think I'm on the bleeding edge here. . . .

Does anyone know how long the transfer should take? I have about 700 contacts and have tried transferring them on my 20 minute drive to work, but no dice. Nothing transferred. Thoughts?

I have the 2011 CT with nave and transferring contacts took seconds. I have the 2012 IS C and transfer of the contacts took seconds. Much improved in my 2013 GS in which the phone book is transferred each time you start your engine and is accurate with your iPhone or other device if you make changes.
