Hey guys, I had a question about my new ct but couldn't find a place where people may be able to provide answer so I decided to start this thread. I hope other owners can contribute and help people like me!

My question is...
When you change modes in the ct (sport, eco, normal) do you have to brake? Can you just change it when your speeding and it wouldn't hurt the car?

There is no issue. If it were detrimental to the car in some way, the computer wouldn't let you do it. Change at will.

I agree with al503. You can change the modes at will. It is a seemless transition between the modes and noticable and it's great. Loving the CTh so far...and getting super great mileage over time...

 

No need to brake because the transmission in the CT is a CVT (continuously variable transmission). The drive modes in the CT merely change in throttle response and in "Sport" mode, a combination of altered throttle and steering response.

second question! (might be kinda dumb excuse my ignorance)

when you start the car should you like... warm the engine?
It's just I noticed that every time I start the car it is completely silent, after about 10 seconds in, it appears that the engine noise starts..

The engine needs to be warm for everything to work properly. No need for you to worry about that. The car's computer will take care of warming up the engine. It is normal for the enjine to start after about 10 to 20 seconds if it is not at the proper operating temperature or if the battery is low. All you have to do is put it in gear, take off and enjoy.

Engine = Gas

Motor = Electric

Another question guys..
When I left the dealership the sales person said to use 91 premium gas. However the owners manual says use 87. I already did my first fillup with 91 is it safe to go down to 87?

 

Yes. The engine in the CT is TINY. It's the exact same engine as the Prius. The computer in the CT is also mapped so that it will take regular. There is no additional benefit to using premium in the CT. With such a small engine, the compression just isn't high enough to require premium, even on a hot day.

The sales person obviously didn't know what he/she was talking about. It's not their job to know every little detail about every car. That's why you do your research before you buy a car. Sometimes, people associate Lexus and other premium brands as cars that require premium. Lexus actually used to require premium for all vehicles. Now, they have three vehicles in their 2011 lineup that use regular: the ES, the HS, and the CT.

Just curious, but have you had a chance to read the owners manual? A lot of your concerns are addressed in there. Starting procedures, fuel requirement and etc.
