Tell that to any industry that uses a HUD. There is a reason in high stress environments they try really hard to keep everything on the same sightline and use physical controls.

As I have said in other threads, a car is not a fighter plane and in most scenarios is not a high stress environment. Its a transportation tool.
It's absolutely not safe to be on your phone typing anything out while you're driving. Self assessed safety is not the same as actual safety. Everybody who has died in an accident they caused thought they were acting within safe limits.
I only ever manipulate my phone to change a song or podcast, and only rarely while in motion.
For me, I just want to look at whatever screen will most quickly provide me with information that I need. In my GS, that's either a 12.3" screen or a few inches on an iPhone. I will choose the 12.3" display every time. Even the truck's 8" screen is faster than looking at my phone, and with CarPlay, there really isn't anything I would need on my phone that isn't displayed on the larger, dash mounted screen.

Mine is one of those that only has Carplay. BMW went with Apple only for a few years. It wasn't until iDrive 7 that they added Android Auto, which for the 5 series was in 2020.
