Hyundai Motor America Reports Second-Best April Retail Sales in its History
May 3 2022- Hyundai Electrified Vehicle Retail Sales Increased 68% in April Led by the World Car of the Year IONIQ 5 Electric SUV
“This was our second-best retail April ever as we worked overtime to meet robust consumer demand,” said Randy Parker, senior vice president, national sales, Hyundai Motor America. “Even with the challenges facing our industry, we were able to exceed the pre-pandemic total and retail sales of April 2019. Even more, our World Car of the Year IONIQ 5 and robust lineup of hybrid and plug-in hybrid models led to significantly increased electrified vehicle sales.”

- IONIQ 5 Swept World Car of the Year: The IONIQ 5 was named overall World Car of the Year, World Electric Vehicle of the Year and World Car Design of the Year
- U.S. Electrified Vehicle Production: Hyundai announced plans to produce the electrified Santa Fe Hybrid at its Hyundai Motor Manufacturing plant in Alabama, the first U.S. production of an electrified Hyundai model
- Palisade Product Enhancement Reveal: Hyundaiunveiled its significantly enhanced 2023 Palisade SUV in a global debut at the New York International Auto Show
- Newsweek Disruptors: Hyundai Motor Group’s Executive Chair, Euisun Chung, was selected as the ‘Visionary of the Year’ by Newsweek and Hyundai was also awarded ‘Research and Development Team of the Year’ and ‘Powertrain Evolution of the Year’
- Model Awards: The Santa Cruz Sport Adventure Vehicle was named Best Pickup Truck by the Northwest Automotive Press Association, while the Tucson was deemed the 2022 Best Compact SUV for Families by U.S. News & World Report
- Hyundai Hope: Hyundai Motor America continued its corporate social responsibility initiative, Hyundai Hope, with a $15,000 donation to the Food Bank for Monterey County
- Hyundai Hope On Wheels:Hyundai Hope On Wheels surpassed $200 million in funding to pediatric cancer research
- One Tree Planted: Hyundai donated $150,000 to help plant 150,000 trees across the U.S.

“Our retailers deserve our heartfelt gratitude for making April the best month of 2022 so far, despite the continued supply chain challenges,” said Thomas J. In April, Outback was a top performer and had its best April ever with 16,510 sales. Ascent sales for April 2022 increased 18.9 percent, while BRZ sales increased 152.5 percent compared to March 2021.
“Subaru retailers remained exceptionally efficient in April, setting an all-time monthly record for Outback,” said Jeff Walters, Senior Vice President of Sales. “Looking forward, we recently announced pricing for the all-new 2023 Solterra, our first-ever EV. Retailer deliveries are expected to begin next month, and we are excited to deliver these much-anticipated cars to our loyal customers.”

IRVINE, Calif., May 2, 2022 – Kia America today announced April sales of 59,063 units, marking the brand’s best-ever April sales total for EV models and pushing the total number of Kia vehicles sold in the U.S. past the 10 million mark. In addition, the Sportage SUV, now in its 5th generation as the brand’s longest running nameplate, achieved its best-ever April sales total with 11,380 units sold.Overall electrified models recorded fourth consecutive same-month sales record, with EV sales reaching 14th consecutive same-month sales record and surpassing the April 2021 mark by over 480-percent.
Kia America also registered its 10 millionth sale in the US since deliveries to buyers began in 1993. Additional details on this historic achievement will follow later this month.

In addition to sales, April saw several significant announcements coming from the brand, including:
- Debut of the refreshed Telluride SUV and all-new hybrid, plug-in hybrid and battery electric Niro models at the New York International Auto Show
- Kia secured the naming rights and became official automotive partner of the Kia Forum, the only arena-sized venue in the U.S. dedicated to music and entertainment.
- The Kia Carnival MPV was named “Family Vehicle of the Year” by AutoGuide. Carnival MPV was recognized as the top family vehicle due to its impressive interior capacity, extensive safety features, and modern design

At this point, it's a test of which manufacturer has the most solid supply chain. I'm not surprised Hyundai-Kia are managing it better than Honda since they have a much larger global presence, while Honda has almost none outside of North America.
I'd like to see Nissan's numbers for last month because so far they've been doing even worse than Honda.

Volvo Car USA maintains sales of Recharge models amid industry challenges in May
Jun 02, 2022 ID: 301849MAHWAH, NJ (June 2, 2022) Volvo Car USA reported sales of 9,372 cars in May with Recharge models (EVs and PHEVs) representing 35.7 percent of total volume, indicating continued consumer demand for electrified vehicles.In California, Recharge models accounted for more than three out of four (77 percent) retail deliveries, up six percent from the previous month.
In Canada, May sales of Recharge models accounted for 34 percent of total sales, up 2.4 percentage points over the previous month. Overall sales increased 2.8 percent over May 2021.
The Volvo Car Americas region as a whole saw 11,513 cars sold during the month.
“Demand for our cars remains strong but we foresee continued inventory challenges ahead,” said Anders Gustafsson, Senior Vice President, Volvo Car Americas and President and CEO, Volvo Car USA.
