Hyundai Motor America Reports August 2021 Sales
- Total Car Sales Up 8%; Total Eco-Friendly Vehicle Sales Increased 245%
- Hyundai Continues to Gain Market Share
“After five months in a row of record-breaking sales, along with chip supply shortages, our inventory levels presented a challenge in August,” said Randy Parker, senior vice president, National Sales, Hyundai Motor America. “Importantly, consumer demand for Hyundai vehicles remains at an all-time high and we expect our inventory pipeline to improve throughout the remainder of the year. We anticipate outperforming the market for the month and continuing to grow our market share.”
August Retail Highlights
Hyundai sold 51,950 retail units in August, a decline of 7%. Hyundai eco-friendly vehicle retail sales continued to grow substantially, increasing 242% on the month. New retail August sales records were established for Ioniq EV, Ioniq PHEV, Kona EV and Nexo.

Mazda Reports August 2021 Sales Results
September 1, 2021IRVINE, Calif. (Sept. 1, 2021) – Mazda North American Operations (MNAO) today reported total August sales of 27,262 vehicles, an increase of 4.6 percent compared to August 2020. Year-to-date sales totaled 249,168 vehicles; an increase of 39.2 percent compared to the same time last year. With 25 selling days in August, compared to 26 the year prior, the company posted an increase of 8.8 percent on a Daily Selling Rate (DSR) basis.
CPO sales totaled 5,899 vehicles in August, a decrease of 11 percent compared to August 2020.
Sales Highlights
- CX-5 achieved 12 percent YoY growth for its second-best August with 15,329 vehicles sold
- CX-30 achieved 14 percent YoY growth with 4,391 vehicles sold

Mazda Canada, Inc., (MCI) reported August sales of 5,907 vehicles, a decrease of 3.2 percent compared to August last year. Year-to-date sales increased 31.1 percent with 46,822 vehicles sold.
Mazda Motor de Mexico (MMdM) reported August sales of 2,931 vehicles, a decrease of 7.4 percent compared to August last year. Year-to-date sales increased 15.9 percent, with 31,283 vehicles sold.

- WRX/STI sales up 80-percent
- Crosstrek sales up 12 percent
“Sales remain steady despite battling the ongoing microchip shortage, and our retailers continue to deliver strong results,” said Thomas J. In August, Outback was the top performer by volume with 14,219 vehicles. Crosstrek sales for August 2021 increased 12 percent over the same month in 2020, while WRX/STI sales increased 80 percent. Year-to-date (YTD), Forester leads by volume with 120,888 vehicles. When compared with the same period in 2020, Outback posted a 30 percent increase, while Crosstrek and WRX/STI carlines posted increases of 37 percent and 40 percent, respectively.

Volvo Car USA August sales mark 15 consecutive months of growth

MAHWAH, NJ (September 1, 2021) Volvo Car USA posted an August sales result of 10,686 cars sold, up 3 percent over 2020, representing 15 consecutive months of year-over-year growth for the brand. Year-to-date sales are up 35.8 percent, an increase of 22,685 cars sold in the same period last year.
The brand’s share of Recharge models – vehicles with fully electric or plug-in hybrid (PHEV) powertrains – held steady, accounting for 48.9 percent of sales in the state of California. Recharge models nationally represented 18.5 percent of total August sales in the United States.
The company’s Americas Region achieved an overall sales increase of 6.3 percent year-over-year with 5.6 percent growth in Canada and 34.6 percent growth in Latin America.
