Super-Fugly on the outside, but, underneath, looks like some interesting mechanicals, particularly since Subaru and Mitsubishi gave up selling Pocket-Rockets in the U.S.,
Just in time to replace the discontinued STI. Looks much more interesting too. I hope they don't price it above $45k but I have a feeling it will be limited production and drive up price. Imagine driving a $50k Corolla
Fully expecting it to be in the same mid-$40k ballpark as the Golf R. No way a 300 HP AWD hot hatch will be cheaper than a Civic Type R.
Ouch, that's DOA then. Get a Tesla M3 instead or so many other options that are faster for that price point or near it, I doubt it will perform well enough to be worth considering for 45k or so

You'd be surprised at the insane markups people were paying for the Civic Type R even before the chip crisis. This will be even more niche than that.

I think if you desiring a GR Corolla, you have absolutely no interest in an EV. Completely different buyers at polar opposite ends of that spectrum

They can have both realistically. They can have the GR Corolla as a fun car with a ton of personality and then weekdays, drive an overpriced Tonka toy from the 1990's.

Performance is performance and people should cross shop all options unless they have a very particular build in mind already, the M3 is an easy no effort needed reasonably fast street car that if you don't want to build at all fits the bill for some people.
I would not buy this over the Tesla for example, the 3 cyl is too limiting.
